Marry Ex's Billionaire Uncle After Divorce (Aurora and Jasper) novel Chapter 283

Chapter 248: Mild Gastric-

(Aurora’s POV)

I opened my eyes. The ceiling swam a little before settling.

“I just feel off,” I said. “I’ll be fine after I sleep.”

“You didn’t eat anything.”

“I know.”

“I’m calling Patrick.”

“Phineas, I don’t need a doctor. It’s not serious.”

“You’re lying in bed at seven in the evening and you haven’t eaten since this morning.” He stood up. “I’m calling Patrick.”

I didn’t have the energy to argue. I heard him pour a glass of warm water, set it on the nightstand beside me, and then step out into the hallway.

His voice drifted in, muffled through the door. I caught fragments. *Symptoms. No appetite. Fatigue. Come

now.*

Then Patrick’s voice, tinny through the phone speaker, saying something that sounded like a complaint.

Then Phineas again, flat and non-negotiable.

Then silence.

I closed my eyes.

(Author’s POV)

Patrick arrived just before nine, still in his jacket, clearly pulled away from wherever he’d been.

“You know,” he said, setting his bag down on the dresser, “most people have the decency to get sick during business hours.”

Phineas said nothing. He stood by the window with his arms crossed, watching.

Patrick ran through the full examination without rushing – blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, lung auscultation. He pressed two fingers gently against Aurora’s abdomen, checking for bloating. Everything came back normal.

“Any other symptoms?” he asked, pulling out his stethoscope. “Nausea? Dizziness?

“A little, Aurora said. “Mostly just tired

Patrick nodded slowly. He clicked his pen against his clipboard. “When was your last period?

Aurora thought about it. “About forty days ago, I think

Patrick was quiet for a moment. Then he straightened up and patted Phineas on the shoulder with a fai smirk. “Relax, man. She’s not dying. Probably just pre-cycle fatigue – hormonal fluctuations, low energy, mild nausea. Get some rest, drink plenty of fluids. She’ll feel better by morning.”

He packed up his instruments and headed for the door.

The moment Patrick’s footsteps disappeared down the stairs, Aurora pushed herself upright. The color drained from her face in an instant. She swung her legs over the side of the bed, pressed one hand agains the mattress, and made it exactly three steps before she turned and walked quickly into the bathroom. The sound that followed was unmistakable.

Phineas was through the bathroom door before it finished echoing. He dropped to one knee beside her, one hand on her back, rubbing slow circles between her shoulder blades, not saying anything, just staying there while her body emptied itself of everything she’d managed to eat that day.

When it was over, she slumped against the wall, pale and exhausted.

He handed her a glass of water. Then mouthwash. Then he lifted her off the floor and carried her back to bed as if she weighed nothing.

She was asleep within minutes.

He didn’t sleep at all. He sat against the headboard with the lamp on its lowest setting, watching the slow rise and fall of her breathing. Once, around three in the morning, she stirred and murmured something he couldn’t make out. He reached over and tucked the blanket more firmly around her shoulders.

The first gray light came through the curtain edges just after six.

(Aurora’s POV)

I woke up to find him sitting on the edge of the bed, already dressed. His collar was buttoned, his jacket on, his shoes tied. But his eyes were shadowed in a way that had nothing to do with the early hour.

“Did you sleep at all?” I asked.

“Some.”

I didn’t believe him. “Phineas.”

“How do you feel?”

He helped me into the bathroom, set out my toothbrush and face wash, and waited just outside the door. When I came out, he was holding my cardigan. He held it open for me to step into, then guided me

downstairs.

Mrs. Potts had left plain white toast and a small bowl of warm broth on the table. I managed a few bites of toast and half the broth before my stomach quietly refused any more. I pushed the bowl aside.

Phineas watched me do it without comment. He picked up his keys.

“Let’s go,” he said.

We pulled into the private clinic just as Patrick was finishing his morning rounds. He came around the corner of the examination corridor and stopped when he saw us.

He raised an eyebrow at Phineas. “I told you she’d be fine by morning.”

“I need you to run some tests,” Phineas said.

Patrick picked up a referral form from the nurses’ station and uncapped his pen. “I’ll put in for gastroenterology. Could be a mild gastric-”
