Chapter 64: Despair–1
(Author’s POV)
Phineas was in his office when Aurora’s leave request came through. He read it, set it aside, and said nothing.
A few minutes later, his phone rang. Benny, calling from Seoul.
“Sir, we’ve finalized things with the donor on the Korean Bone Marrow Registry side. We’re at the gate now, about to board.” A brief pause. “Do you want to tell Ms. Aurora yourself, or should we contact the hospital directly?”
Phineas checked the time.
“When you land, go straight to the hospital,” he said. “Tell the attending physician that a match was identified through the latest update to the donor registry database. Let him be the one to tell her.”
“Understood.”
Benny hung up the phone and turned to the donor standing behind him–a taciturn gentleman. “We’re ready to board now. Thank you for your patience.”
The donor nodded and followed him toward the gate.
Benny had been with Phineas for five years. He had watched him dismantle companies, outmaneuver rivals, and make decisions that left entire boardrooms speechless. Phineas remained as unreadable as ever. He had spent weeks tracking down this donor, called in favors across two countries, and arranged the whole thing down to the last detail – and now he was making sure Aurora would never know any of it had come from him.
Benny didn’t understand it. But he had long since stopped expecting to.
(Sienna’s POV)
My phone rang at 2:47 in the afternoon.
I looked at the screen. Aurora.
I let it ring twice before I picked up, then made sure my voice carried through the open door.
“Oh, Aurora! I’m at the office right now, I really can’t step away.” I leaned back in my chair, letting the warmth in my voice fill the hallway. “If you need to talk, just come find me here. We can sit down properly.”

I ended the call and set the phone on my desk.
From the corridor, I caught the sound of lowered voices – two of my assistants, poorly pretending they hadn’t been listening.
“…must be struggling out there if she’s coming to Ms. Sienna…”
“The job market’s brutal right now. A stable position like this one doesn’t come around
twice…”
Let them talk. For once, the gossip wasn’t pointed at me.
(Aurora’s POV)
Walking back into that building was something else entirely.

The receptionist at the front desk didn’t recognize me. I told her I had a three o’clock appointment with Sienna. She picked up the phone, spoke quietly into it, then looked up with an apologetic smile.
“Ms. Sienna is finishing up something urgent. She asks that you wait in the lobby.”
“How long?”
“I’m not sure. You’re welcome to take a seat.” She gestured toward the sofas near the entrance. “The R&D floor is a restricted area, so I can’t let you go up unaccompanied. If the wait is inconvenient, we can reschedule for another day.”
I knew exactly what this was. Sienna making sure I understood my position before the conversation even started.
I sat down.
The lobby was bright and cool. People moved through it with purpose – badges clipped to lapels, coffee cups in hand, going somewhere that mattered. I watched them and kept my face blank.
I was here for Leo. That was the only thing that mattered.
Three o’clock came and went.
At four–thirty, a young assistant appeared and told me I could go up.
I rode the elevator to the R&D floor and walked the corridor I used to know by heart. Two former colleagues passed me near the copy room. One of them slowed down.
“Aurora? Didn’t expect to see you here.” His smile had an edge to it. “Things not working out
