“I’ll accept the terms we discussed,” I said. “But the surgery needs to happen before the end of next week. That’s the condition.”

Sienna’s expression shifted. Something cool moved through her eyes.

“About that.” She crossed her legs and folded her hands in her lap. “I’ve been thinking it over, and I’ve changed my mind.”

I went still.

“Think about it from my perspective.” Her voice was pleasant, almost reasonable. “Why would I donate bone marrow and get nothing out of it? That doesn’t make any sense.” She tilted her head. “Victoria already paid you a visit. The terms are simple – you sign the divorce agreement her way, walk away with nothing, drop every financial claim. You do that, and I’ll go to the hospital today.” She paused, then added with a small sigh, “I’m not a monster, Aurora. It’s a life we’re talking about.”

The rage came up so fast it almost choked me.

“So you won’t lift a finger,” I said, “unless I leave with absolutely nothing.”

“That’s the deal.”

I held her gaze. “Then I’ll post every photo I have. Every message. Every piece of evidence of what you and Jasper have been doing. All of it, on every platform I can reach.”

She smiled. It didn’t reach her eyes.

“Sebastian already handled that.” She said it the way someone mentions the weather. “Anything you try to post gets flagged and pulled before it goes live. We have people for that.” She leaned forward slightly. “Aurora, look at what you’re working with. A brother who’s dying and a mother who’s done nothing but make your life harder. That’s all you’ve got.” She let that land, then stood up. “Sign the papers. I’ll go to the hospital this afternoon. That’s my final offer. Otherwise I’m sorry for your loss.”

I stood up.

I didn’t say anything. There was nothing left to say.

I walked out of her office. I walked down the corridor, past the colleagues who watched me go, into the elevator, through the lobby, and out through the glass doors onto the street.

The afternoon sun hit me full in the face and I kept walking.

The hopelessness was physical – a weight that pressed down on my shoulders and settled into my chest. I moved through the crowd without seeing any of it. The noise of the street felt distant, like it was happening on the other side of thick glass.

A shout cut through the noise ahead of me.

“Someone call for help – she collapsed!”

I stopped.

A small crowd had gathered near a bench. I pushed through it and found an elderly woman

on the ground, her limbs trembling faintly, her skin chalk–white.

I dropped to my knees beside her and checked her pulse.

Nothing.

“Call 911. Right now.” I looked up at the nearest person. “Do it now.”
