The first two days after Aurora’s birth passed in a haze of exhaustion and wonder. My body ached from the ordeal, but each time I held
our daughter, the pain faded into insignificance.
She’s beautiful, Lumina whispered in my mind, her presence weaker than usual but warm with contentment. Our pup. Finally here.
“Are you alright?” I asked silently, concerned by the tremor in her voice.
The birth took much from both of us, she admitted. I held her safe as long as I could, but we must be vigilant now. She came early–she will be fragile for months. Keep her warm, keep her close, let her feed often.
I nodded, cradling Aurora tighter. Regis barely left our side those first days, transformed into a besotted father who hummed ancient lullabies and refused to let anyone else hold her for more than a few minutes.
“She has your determination,” he murmured one evening, watching her fuss against his shoulder. “Already fighting sleep like it’s a battle
to be won.”
“And your stubbornness,” I countered, smiling. “She won’t let go of your finger.”
On the fifth morning, Cora cleared us for travel, while Dr. Hawthorne reviewed the final reports. “Your moon–blessed healing is remarkable,” she said, checking my vitals one last time. “You’re recovering five times faster than a normal she–wolf.”
“And Cornelius’s network is dismantled. It’s time to go home.” Dr. Hawthorne added.
Home. The word settled warm in my chest.
When our carriage rolled through the academy gates, Alfred and Kristina stood waiting with what looked like half the campus. The moment we stopped, Kristina was there, gathering Aurora into her arms with practiced ease.
“Oh, she’s perfect,” she whispered, and I watched Aurora’s pale silver–blue eyes flutter open to focus on her grandmother’s face.
Alfred approached more slowly, his stern expression softening as he studied his granddaughter. “Eileen,” he said quietly, “you’ve given this family more than an heir. You stood between us and darkness, and you won. That takes strength far beyond blood or birthright.”
The assembled crowd moved as one–students, teachers, warriors–bowing their heads in respect. Not just to Regis’s mate. To me.
“They know about the battle,” Regis murmured in my ear. “About your wolf, about everything. You’re not just my Luna anymore. You’re
theirs.”

The weight of expectation threatened to crush me, but Aurora made a small sound and suddenly none of it mattered. I had what I’d fought for: my family, safe and whole.
The emergency council meeting that evening was mercifully brief. Regis laid out the conspiracy while Alfred announced Cornelius’s treason and death. When the elders questioned my transformation, I kept my answer simple.
“I was always wolf,” I said quietly. “I just needed to remember.”
Regis stood beside me, Aurora sleeping in his arms. “I present Eileen Wylde–Vane, my chosen mate and true Luna. She carries the Moon
Goddess’s blessing, and our daughter inherits that gift.”

Aurora’s eyes opened, silver light flickering in those pale irises for just a moment. The chamber erupted in whispers. One by one, the elders stood and bowed–not from politics but genuine reverence.
All hail Luna Eileen,” Alfred declared.
The chorus echoed through the chamber, and I felt something shift in my chest. Acceptance. Of myself, of my place, of the impossible
journey that had led here.
Afterward, Mira practically tackled me with a hug. “You’re officially fancy now. Should I start curtsying?”
“Please don’t.”
She grinned. “Owen proposed properly–full moon ceremony in two weeks. You’ll be there, right?”
‘I wouldn’t miss it.”
Across the room, Regis approached Nina by the window. “The academy needs a magical consultant. Someone to help us understand and defend against witch magic. The position comes with quarters, autonomy, and a generous stipend.”
Nina turned, surprised. ‘You want me to teach here?”
“I want you to have a place where you’re valued for your knowledge, not hunted for your blood. Somewhere you can heal. He paused. You saved Eileen’s life. You’re stronger than you believe.”
After a long moment, she nodded. ‘I’ll stay. But I’m keeping my own hours.”
“Wouldn’t expect anything less.”
That night, back in our own quarters, I sank into bed while Regis settled Aurora in the carved cradle he’d made before we left. Moonlight
