(Author’s POV)
"The fated mates, they belong with each other, sharing an infinite, unbreakable bond. And~ .... Myra Miracle, I, Elio Everests, belong with you," Elio said as if he was reciting a sacred vow, his voice brimming with tender emotions.
"Myra, you are the destined mate the moon goddess has chosen for me. I couldn’t have asked for more. You are the missing piece of my soul I have been waiting for. The moment I met you~ .... my heart knew it had finally found its home. Our souls didn’t just meet; they recognized one another, intertwined by a destiny written by the divine goddess herself. We were always meant to be. Do you~ ... do you also feel the same about me?" He finally asked, his expression filled with fragile expectations and anticipation. There was a slight tremor in his voice when he finished.
His heartfelt words and sincere disclosure tugged at Myra’s heart, stirring her emotions to a great degree. She was moved; her heart beat palpitated wildly, thumping in her chest as she hitched her breath.
Elio looked at her reddened face and couldn’t help himself. He leaned in, his face inching closer and closer to hers. Myra remained still, very still, as if she was under his spell. The surroundings turned suggestive, automatically.
Their breath mingled as his face was right in front of hers. He, very gently, combed the slightly wet lock resting on her forehead and tucked it behind her ear. Then his hand drifted towards her cheek, his thumb caressing it with compassion. His touch was electrifying yet soft. There was an undeniably magnetic connection between them, neither of them could ignore. The attraction of the mate bond was gravitational- pulling them towards each other.
"May I?" Elio whispered, his breathing fanning on her lips, warming them as he cupped her cheeks.
Myra felt her throat getting dry. She licked her lips with nervousness. He took it as a sign of consent as he closed his eyes and went for it. But just when they were about to kiss, Myra’s words stopped him, "No, I don’t."
He flinched, his movement halted midway. His eyes flew open, looking at her with hurt and disbelief as if asking why.
Myra continued, "I don’t feel the same way about you, Elio." Her words weren’t loud, but they were clear cut. Despite her affectionate feelings towards Elio, she knew what they were just about to do wasn’t right. Just a few minutes ago, she was entangled with Alaric inside the bathroom. They were all over each other. She could still feel the sandalwood scent on her and even the taste of their passionate kiss.
She wasn’t a shameless slut like Alaric called her. She has no intention of wringing the Everests brothers and pitting them against each other, no damn way.
Elio’s eyes glowed, turning misty, as he queried, "Why? Why do you say that? You used to like me? In Kimberg~ ... we were~ ..."
Myra cut him off, "We were, Elio~ .... but~ .... I don’t feel the same way about you, not anymore. Whatever was between us, I have already forgotten about it. So~ ... let’s drop this conversation here and please get off of me." Saying this, she shrugged his hand away and sat up. She was trying her best to be cold. Of course, she had forgiven him. But getting involved with any of the Everests brothers, romantically, was a complete no-no for her. Especially Elio, when her own dear sister was head over heels for the guy. The complicated emotions were churning up, messing with her badly.
Her blunt choice of words was like a sledgehammer, shattering his heart like a crystal castle. Her cold push was even more so, "Myra~ ... don’t say that. All this time, I have been yearning for you, just you. You are the only one for me. The only one in this lifetime. Is it~ .... is it because of the lie I told you? Have you still not forgiven me? Or is it because of my werewolf origin?"
Even the thought of Myra with someone else was wrenching his gut. His agonizing wolf took over. His face twisted and his voice came out unusually heavy, "You can’t do this~ ... you can’t do this to us. You are our fated mate, our destined one. No one can ever take you away from us. Not even you."
"Myra~ .... Myra~ .... Myra~ ... a mate bond doesn’t end like this. It is an indissoluble connection. Not just our fates, but our mind, soul and even body are tied with each other’s. Neither you nor I can sever this link," Leo said, his voice imposing.
