Matthew forced Sogan's mask onto his face and pulled the man's clothes tight against his body. The fabric smelled of dried sweat and blood. To complete the act, he dragged his nails across his own flesh until the skin tore, leaving raw gashes that oozed and festered like wounds from a savage beating.
When the disguise was done, he knelt beside Sogan's corpse. He poured a fine powder across the body, watching in silence as the flesh melted away grain by grain until nothing remained but the lifeless forms of the soldiers.
Once the scene was staged, Matthew sank into the shadows of the cave and waited.
It was not long before a deep, steady rhythm carried through the tunnel. The sound of boots striking stone grew louder with every second. Judging by the weight and number of steps, at least fifty men were closing in.
"Sogan! Why haven't you turned in your supplies? It's been days! Do you realize the envoy is losing patience?"
The words rolled into the cave before their owner appeared.
A tall, sharp-faced man entered first, his lean figure wrapped in the uniform of a Medusa Gang captain.
Behind him, fifty soldiers filed in, their armor rattling like iron chains.
Matthew studied the man's bearing and knew instantly where he stood in their ranks.
Sogan had commanded only twenty men. This one had twice as many, which meant the Medusa Gang measured rank by power.
The stronger the captain, the larger the squad. Whoever this man was, he belonged among the higher tier.
Meeting the envoy would be well within his reach.
"Captain… we ran into a powerful enemy," Matthew rasped, shaping his voice into the sound of weakness.
The captain stepped closer, his eyes running over Matthew's torn flesh.
His brows pinched tight, and then he forced a look of pity onto his face.
"Mate, who could have done this to you? Tell me who it was, and I'll make sure they suffer for it."
The act was hollow. Matthew saw the hunger behind his eyes. This man wanted Sogan gone.
Matthew's gaze dropped to the insignia on the captain's shoulder. The emblem read: Serpent.
Normally, once a mission was handed out, no other captain could step in. For Serpent to arrive meant the envoy trusted him more and had little faith in Sogan.
Serpent's men spread out across the cave, setting up camp. They dragged the corpses aside, clearing the ground of the dead.
One soldier carried over several heavy crates and placed them at Serpent's feet.
"Captain, we found these while clearing the cave."
Serpent opened one of the lids. His eyes narrowed as he stared down at stacks of glass vials filled with shimmering liquid. Kiss of God.
His gaze snapped back to Matthew, suspicion flashing in his face. "Why would you be hiding this much Kiss of God?"
Matthew lowered his head, letting shame color his words. His voice came out slow, rough, and broken. "Captain Serpent, I wasn't trying to hide it. One of my men works out of a small clinic.
"He has a gift for experimenting and brewing formulas. He made these, but the effects aren't stable yet. That's why I never dared to present them to a captain."
Serpent's tone cut like steel. "Where is this man of yours? Bring him to me right now!"

The readers' comments on the novel: Medical Genius Unspeakable Marriage (Matthew Larson)
The story started out really good, but after 400+ chapters, I got exhausted because of the in-laws. There’s just too much pointless chatter and greed. The protagonist is supposed to be strong but turns soft whenever the in-laws are involved—even the wife, yikes. Do they always have to give in to every demand and treat? Too weak. I didn’t get angry, just tired… so I stopped reading 😜...
