Applause came from behind Matthew.

Kelsey walked out of the shop, wearing a white blouse.

Matthew glanced over. "Didn't you usually wear a dress? Why the change today?"

Kelsey smiled. "A girl needs a day off, you know. And Mr. Larden, what you said earlier totally ruined my reputation. What are the neighbors going to think of me now?"

Matthew looked around.

There were two other brothels nearby, about the same size as Kelsey's.

"Are you sure they ever looked at you with pure intentions before?"

The smile on Kelsey's face disappeared.

"Mr. Larden, didn't anyone ever tell you to be a little gentler when talking to a lady?"

Matthew nodded. "I know. I'm being very gentle with you right now."

Kelsey didn't know what to say.

"Anyway, Kelsey, is Morton awake?"

She nodded. "Mr. Malken just got up. The girls are helping him with breakfast."

Matthew carried Ariya and walked into the shop.

Sure enough, he saw Morton sitting there with a big smile, getting fed by two girls on either side.

"Matteo! Come have a bite with us!" Morton called out.

"No need. Morton, I'm heading to District 12 next. Do you have a pass?"

Blackshore Island had thirteen districts.

You needed a pass to move from one district to another.

"And even if you go to the guards, they either won't approve it or they'll say the month's quota is already used up.

"So, Matteo, I suggest you wait a while before heading to District 12."

Morton told Matthew everything he knew.

Even he couldn't get a pass right now.
