Chapter 57-2

1 followed Mazie without questioning her, although I wondered where the hell she was taking me,
as we walked deep within the cemetery. It was clear that we were entering the older part of the
cemetery as the headstones in this area looked to have been hand engraved, unlike the newer
ones towards the entrance. Catching a few of the dates on them, they dated back at least a
hundred years, probably being some of the first settlers here.
Mazie finally came to a stop in front of a large headstone, and I moved to stand beside her, as I
gasped at seeing my family’s surname on it. But then my eyes moved to the engraving under it,
reading, “Our Beloved Alpha.”
My head tilted to the side as I stared at it, wondering what on earth our beloved Alpha meant, but
then I remembered the story Chance had told me about the wolves, making me wonder if this was
somehow a reference to it.
“Does the name Charles Wilson ring a bell to you? Has your grandmother or mother ever spoken of
a Charles?”
Shaking my head slightly, I admitted to her, “I honestly don’t know much about my family. My mother never spoke about them, and my grandmother has only mentioned her parents to me once
since I have been here. As for my grandfather, my mother told me that she never knew him, and that my grandmother refused to tell her who he was, giving my mother her parents‘ surname
instead.”
“I guess my family isn’t the only one with secrets.” Mazie says, as she takes a step back, looking around at the other headstones, as I wondered if I could possibly be related to this person buried here, and if my family was one of the first to settle here.
“How did you find this?” I asked her, now wondering why she would have been so deep into the cemetery, as this part of the cemetery looked to have been forgotten.
“Um… Cash dragged me out here the other day looking for a family headstone for a report he is doing on our town’s history.” Mazie says nervously to me, making me wonder if the two of them had come here to meet secretly and hook up.
I don’t know why I was feeling jealous once again at the thought of the two of them being together, but I was, and I found myself unable to control my tongue needing to know. “Is there something secretly going on between you and Cash?”
Mazie turned to look at me, as her eyes widened, making her look like a deer in headlights from my question, all while her mouth dropped open.

Chapter 57-2
“I mean it’s okay if there is. Chance sort of told me that Cash kissed you.”

“What?” Mazie now blurts out, obviously shocked at what I had just said, before she says, “That was in middle school, and no, there is nothing and I mean nothing going on between us.”
“You don’t have to hide it from me. The two of you are always together, and I see how close you are. I mean, I can’t blame you for wanting him. He’s got an amazing personality, and looks to boot. Have you seen him without a shirt? The boy is hot.” I said to her, as I realized now what I had passed up at the waterhole that day, but Chance was just as amazing as he was.
“Eww, no. Please stop. I think I’m going to puke.” Mazie says, as her face turns flush, making me think that I have her on the verge of coming out of the closet.
But as I push her by saying, “You should have seen the sweat beads glistening off his tan chest today.” Mazie literally brings her hand up, placing it over her mouth as she closes her eyes, before she blurts out, “I’m gay!”
“What?” I asked her, taking a step back, shocked by what Mazie had just admitted to me, before I
said to her, “But you kissed Cash.”
“No, he kissed me in his attempt to try and prove to me that I wasn’t gay. It backfired on his ass, and I puked all over his new shoes.” Mazie now admits to me, making me realize that I had brought her out of a closet, just not the closet I had thought I was going to
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
Shaking her head at me, she says, “No one knows except for Cash and Chance. I mean everyone expects it, but I haven’t actually admitted it to anyone, other than them, and now you. You have to understand, this isn’t California. Not everyone here is going to be as accepting of it. So, I beg you
not to tell anyone,”
“I would never.” I told her, as I now felt guilty pressuring her about Cash and her relationship, and
even though I felt awkwardly relieved to hear they weren’t a thing, I now felt awful.
Mazie had been so kind to me, and here I was, being a horrible friend to her, letting my jealousy get in the way, jealousy that I should never be feeling towards her if she liked Cash. I was beginning to think that maybe I had hit my head harder than they thought I had in the car accident, as this wasn’t normal behavior, having feelings like this for two brothers.
Seeing Mazie just standing there now, lost on what to say next, I knew I had to apologize to her, and try to fix the awkwardness I had just caused between us, by letting her know the truth, since
she was honest with me.
“I am sorry that I pressured you into telling me. Honestly, I have my own confession to make. I think

there is something wrong with me.”

Mazie’s eyebrows furrowed once again, as she stared at me with a look of complete confusion on her face, before she asked, “What do you mean by there is something wrong with you?”
There was no way of sugar–coating what I was about to say, so instead of prolonging it, trying to find a way to say it, so I didn’t sound so much like a slut, I closed my eyes and just came clean with

her by saying, “I have feelings for both Chance and Cash.”
For some reason, saying it out loud and actually admitting it felt like a weight had been lifted off
my chest, as I slowly opened my eyes, bracing myself for Mazie’s response.
