Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 124

Chance’s POV

+25 Points

Growing up, my father always told me to follow my intuition and allow my wolf to guide me, and that was exactly what I did, leading me back to the cemetery. In two separate incidents, the cemetery had been the focal point, telling me that the rogues had to be camped somewhere nearby.

The scent of the rogue that had attacked Raven today still lingered in the air, along with Raven’s blood, enraging my wolf once again, making me determined more than ever to find these rogues and make them pay for hurting our mate. But as I moved through the cemetery following the scent of the rogue, I came across a headstone that caught my eye.

Normally, I never travel this far back into the cemetery, as all those that I knew and loved were buried in the newer section. The day that Cash and Mazie had discovered Josie’s body, I followed Cash’s lead, not paying too much attention to the headstones. But today, being here alone, following my own instincts, I found myself standing before a grave that made me question if there was some truth behind Mazie’s accusation that Raven was one of us.

Weeds surrounded the headstone, as if it had been left unattended, but its handcarved stone figure stood out tall among the weeds, as the moonlight shined down on it like a spotlight, making the surname noticeable, along with the engraving, which read, Our beloved Alpha.

Its mere existence in our cemetery didn’t make sense to me, as my family was the only family to ever hold the title of Alpha to this territory. But seeing this headstone was now making me wonder if there was more being kept from us than what Raven had already discovered.

As I leaned down to move the weeds to the side, to reveal an engraving at the bottom of the headstone, my head snapped to the side, hearing a faint sound coming from even further within the cemetery. Birds began to flock from the trees, telling me that they had sensed a predator, making my wolf begin to stir within me, as if he too could sense something was nearby.

Standing to my full height, I began to scan the area for any signs of movement, as I cautiously walked towards where the sound had come from, tuning into all my wolf’s senses, knowing that a rogue could be watching me at that very moment. Another sound came, drawing me even deeper in the same direction, and before I knew it, the sound had led me straight to my Uncle Ethan’s grave.

Unlike the other day when I was here, when Cash had found Josie’s body, the grave now looked to be unscathed, as if nothing had happened to it, with fresh flowers planted at the foot of the headstone. But as I took a closer look at the flowers just about to bloom, I realized that these weren’t just any flowers, but

wolfsbane.

Immediately, I took a step back, wondering why on earth someone would plant wolfsbane at the foot of a wolf’s headstone, as wolfsbane was a wolf’s kryptonite. The only reasoning that I could think of was that my father had planted it to deter anyone from desecrating his brother’s grave again, but I couldn’t believe that he would plant it on sacred ground.

Looking around, I wondered if my father had planted it anywhere else, trying to ward off the rogues from reentering our sacred ground, but as I looked around for it, I spotted slight movement within a small group of trees further within the cemetery. The wind at that moment shifted, and a familiar scent began to tickle my nose, telling me exactly now who had led me here. It had been days now since I had seen him, and it

was clear to me where he had been spending his time, as this now pointed to him being here on at least Three different occasions.

Chase.I called out, as I began to walk towards the group of trees, wondering what kind of game he was playing with me, leading me to our uncle’s grave.
