Chase’s wolf let out a low growl, as if to warn me not to come closer, making me reach out through our mind link to him. Chase, what the hell is going on? Where have you been all week?

Chase and I have had our differences over the years, and in all those years, even as bad as the fights have gotten, never once did he refuse to talk to me, always putting his twosense in. But right now, he remained silent, making me wonder what the hell was going on with him, and why he was keeping his distance between himself and our family.

Refusing to back off like his wolf was warning me too, I continued to move towards the group of trees that he was hiding within their shadows, not willing to leave until he talked to me. Another low growl radiated from within the trees, even lower than the first one, making me reach out to him once again through our mind link, asking him, What the hell is wrong with you, Chase? Just talk to me and tell me what is going

Just on with you.

At first, I thought that I had gotten through to him, as I saw movement once again within the trees, making me think he was going to step out of them so that we could talk civilly. Just when I thought that his wolf burst through the trees, taking off like a bat out of hell even deeper within the cemetery.

Realizing something wasn’t right with him and his behavior, I shifted into my wolf, taking off after him, not willing to let this go, because something was telling me his absence had to do with him hunting these rogues on his own. I should have known that he had taken it personally with the Alpha rogue besting him, and that he wouldn’t let it go until he tracked him down himself. Even though Chase was the youngest of the three of us brothers, he was by far the most competitive, always feeling like he had something to prove, and right now, I knew he was up to something, but the question was, what was it?

Thankfully, I didn’t give him too much of a head start, leaving me able to keep my eyes on him, as we neared the back of the cemetery, giving him nowhere to go, as the huge metal fence that outlined the cemetery came into view. The forest that surrounded the back part of the cemetery, though, began to hinder the moon’s light from reaching the ground, making it more impossible to keep my sight of Chase.

As if Chase knew this area existed, and he wanted to use it to his advantage, he disappeared into its darkness, making me lose sight of him. My wolf came to a halt as the tall metal fence came into view, as I began to look around for where the hell Chase had disappeared to.

My wolf began to sniff the air, trying to pick up his scent, as I slowly made my way along the fence line, until I stumbled upon a break in it. The metal fence looked as if it had been mowed over by a herd of elephants, as it laid on the ground mangled. There was no doubt in my mind that this is how the Alpha rogue was able to escape from Chase’s pursuit of him.

Making my way through the mangled gate, freeing myself from the confinement of the cemetery, I began to pick heavily up not just Chase’s scent, but another scent that faintly lingered in the air, that I had been tracking for over a week now. With caution, I began to make my way into the forest, putting all my senses on high alert, as I followed Chase’s scent, wondering now if he had found something, and if he was trying to lead me there.

I must have followed his scent for what felt like miles, while I began to feel like I was playing a game of cat and mouse with him, as he led me deep within the mountain range that not only surrounded our town, but was also the far corner of our ranch. It was part of our land that none of us visited much, as the mountains on this side were vast with forest and left uninhabited, but as I began to ascend the side of the

mountain, I realized that a wellbeaten path was forming, making me wonder if this was where the rogues had been hiding from us this whole time.

A small cabin at that moment carne into my view, making my wolf come to a halt, lowering his body to the ground, as I noticed a light flickering inside the cabin, telling me that someone was inside. I looked all around, wondering where the hell Chase had disappeared to, as I began to wonder if the person inside the cabin could be him, but then the door to the cabin opened, and a man stepped out onto the porch.

My eyes strained to see the man’s face, as large clouds blocked the moonlight from shining down. I could see the man’s silhouette though, and I watched as he raised his head to the sky, as if he was trying to smell the air, making me wonder if he had sensed me nearby.

The clouds at that moment began to slowly move from covering the moon, and light slowly began to beam down straight towards the man’s face, as his head slowly turned to look in my direction. As the moonlight hit his face, I was utterly shocked to see that the man was my father, making me wonder what he was doing here, and how I didn’t know about this cabin existing.

But as I willed my wolf to show himself, my wolf put up resistance to my request, making me wonder what the hell was wrong with him. A snap of a branch at that moment came from within the tree line to the left of the cabin, making the man that I thought was my father turn his head, revealing a scar that ran the whole length of his face.

Instantly, I realized that this man was not my father, and that there was only one other person that it could be, but how was that even humanly possible, when I had just stood at the foot of his grave just moments ago?
