Chapter 76-2
As the voices from the bedroom became even louder, I decided not to stick around a second
longer and headed down the stairs towards Cash, but as I made my way to the bottom of the stairs, I heard Chase let out a scream of pain. Cash opened his arms up to me at that moment, and I didn’t hesitate to bury my head in his chest, while he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close to him.
All of this was way too much, and without my pills taking the edge off, I felt like I was going to lose my shit at any moment, between the arguing and the screaming. In a way, I felt like I was teeter–tottering on the edge of a steep cliff, ready to fall over its edge, as all my senses seemed to be heightened and too much for me to deal with all at once.
As if Cash could sense my distress, he guided me out of the house, onto the front porch, where the screaming and arguing wasn’t as pronounced. A part of me at that moment just wanted to leave and go back to my grandmother’s, but another part of me knew I couldn’t just leave. I needed to know that Chance and Chase were going to be okay, and by the sounds of Chase’s screams, I was now worried about just how bad this poisoning actually was.
“Everything is going to be okay.” Cash now says, trying to comfort me, as he holds me tightly against his chest, rubbing my back, while I try to muffle out everything around me.
“The poison just has to be burned out of their system.” He then added as Chase let out another scream, making me bury my head even deeper into his chest, as my heart ached in pain for Chase, while I tried to fight the urge to go to him, knowing that he didn’t want me by his side.
But as another scream wailed from Chase, I couldn’t hold back the need I had inside of me to go to him. Pulling once again from Cash’s arms, I went back inside the house, this time racing towards the living room to see Chase lying on the couch, buck ass naked, with those dark veins running throughout his entire body.
Chase’s nakedness didn’t even remotely phase me, as all I cared about at that moment was his wellbeing, and right now I was scared for him, as he was dripping in perspiration with his back arched from the couch in pain. Not giving it a second thought, I raced to the couch, kneeling beside it, as I took Chase’s hand once again into my own.
This time, when our palms went flush with each other’s, I felt an electrical current run from me straight to Chase, as if I was now his lifeline. Instantly, Chase’s back relaxed on the couch, and his screams stopped, as he held on tightly to my hand. Honestly, I didn’t know if he even knew that it was my hand that he was holding, but I didn’t care as long as it was helping him bear the pain.

Slowly, Chase’s breathing became steady, and the doctor moved to his side, leaning down and taking his vitals. Pulling the stethoscope from his ears, he says, “Chase is going to be fine. It may take a couple of days for the wolfsbane to make its way fully out of his system, and he may show signs of pain, but I don’t think it’s anything a mate bond can’t fix.”
The doctor’s attention then turned to me, as he gave me a warm smile, making me realize that he knew about the mate thing the Ryders had going on, and by the look on his face there was no judgement on his behalf towards me. Shockingly, I thought that I was going to feel weird about people knowing about the awkward relationship, but seeing the lack of judgment on the doctor’s face, I realized it didn’t bother me one bit.
“Bless your soul, Dr. Roberts.” Chase’s grandmother says, as she reaches down, taking Chase’s other hand into hers.
“Don’t thank me yet. I believe I have one more grandson to look at.” Dr. Roberts then said, as I watched him grab his medical bag and begin to climb the stairs, making me now want to go to Chance, but I knew by Chase’s breathing he wasn’t out of the woods just yet.
I wasn’t quite sure how this mated to all three brothers‘ thing was going to work, especially with me feeling torn about which brother I should be with. Hell, here I was holding Chase’s hand, the one brother that didn’t want to be with me in his sober mind, over the brother that I
was supposed to be dating. None of this in my mind made sense to me, but in my heart, I couldn’t bear to leave Chase’s side, especially with him like this.
Cash kneeled beside me, leaning up against the couch, as their grandmother followed Dr. Roberts up the stairs to Chance’s room. Thankfully, the yelling and screaming from upstairs came to a halt, making me feel like I was able to breathe again.
Seeing my distress, Cash removes a strand of hair from my face as he says to me, “Things aren’t always like this. I promise you things will get easier as time goes on.” But just as the words of encouragement come from his lips, the screen door to the house opens and shuts, drawing both of our attention to who it could possibly be.
It didn’t take long to figure out who it was, as the words, “Get the hell away from my mate!” Echoed throughout the whole entire house, as a very pissed–off–looking Jessica now stood
inside the living room, hovering over me.
