Chapter 76-1
Raven’s POV
“No, now isn’t the time to talk about this. Days or even a week ago, hell, maybe when Raven showed up here would have been a good time, but you think now is a good time to talk about it?” Chance says to his father with a bit of spitefulness in his tone, telling me whatever he discovered on his own he knows now that his father had been keeping things from him.
“Son, everything I have done is to protect you and your brothers, along with Raven. I didn’t want to see history repeat itself.”
“It’s too little too late for that, don’t you think? Plus, how am I supposed to keep her safe when I have no clue what to protect her from? If anything, you let history repeat itself, by keeping us in the dark just like your father and uncle did with you, but I won’t lose her like you lost her mother.” Chance tells his father, as his arm protectively tightens around me, pulling
me closer to him, while he refuses to back down to his father, all while I wonder what Chance
meant by how he lost my mother.
“You’re right. I should have told you, and I can see that now, but you too have been keeping secrets to protect those that you love.” Evan defensively says back to Chance, as his eyes stare directly at me, telling me I was the one he was keeping secrets from, but I wasn’t a fool, and I could see that Evan was purposely trying to divide us.
Chance’s chest began to rumble, making me feel the vibration beneath my head, while I could hear him trying to hold back a growl of frustration towards his father. I have never seen Chance raise his voice or defy his father in the whole time I have been around the two of them, up until now. Normally, it was Chase that would be the one to defy their father, and Chance had always been the one to want to please him, but right now, it doesn’t seem as if Chance cared too much about what his father thought of him.
Chance’s growl slowly turned into a half–chuckle, before he said back to his father, “Secrets… I wouldn’t have had to keep that secret if I had known the truth all this time. She is one of us, and she deserves to know that.”
My head rose slightly, looking at Chance’s face, wondering what he meant by I was one of them, but his eyes remained locked on his father in a stare–down. I was just about to question him, when the two of them verbally went at it, and I could barely make out what each of them were saying or hell, even what they were talking about, as it all didn’t make one bit of sense to me.
In the heat of their argument, Chance’s arm loosened around me, and I took this as my moment to slip from his grasp, as the argument between him and his father was becoming

pretty heated. So heated that he didn’t even notice me slipping out of the bed and the door to his bedroom.
I wanted nothing more in this world than to know the truth about what the hell was happening around here, and what had happened to drive my mother away all those years ago, but I didn’t want to find this out through a heated battle between Chance and his father. Chance was just about to tell me what he had discovered when his father had walked into the room, and I knew that once this argument with his father was over, he would resume telling me. But right now, I don’t think that it was best for me to insert myself into what the two of them had going on, as it seemed like this was a family affair of distrust that needed to be addressed between just the two of them.
Both their voices followed me out of the bedroom and down the hallway towards the staircase, where I was sure that their voices had also been carried all the way downstairs,
because as I made my way to the top of the stairs, Cash stood at the bottom, staring up at me with widened eyes.
