Chapter12-1
Raven’s POV
With a damn smirk on his face, he struts towards the kitchen, as the elderly woman says to him, “Oh Chance, you’re just in time to help us finish dinner.”
Chance bent over, kissing her on the cheek, as he said to her, “I would love to help you, grandmother.”
While his eyes remained on me, with that damn smirk on his face.
“Good, you can wash the potatoes and cut them up like I like them, as this sweet young lady peels them.”
Chance moved to my side, as his eyes wondered down at the black tee shirt I was wearing, before he said,
“You look good in my shirt.” As he raised his one eyebrow, checking me out.
My eyes instantly rolled as I turned away from him, not wanting him to see that he was getting under my
skin, but then he asked, “How was your walk?”
I froze in the middle of peeling the potato in my hand, as I looked up to see him just standing there with
that damn smirk still on his face, as if he knew that I would end up here at his house.
With the potato peeler in my right hand, I pointed it at him, as I said to him, “You knew I was walking in the
wrong direction, and you let me do it. I could have been eaten by a wild animal, or worse yet, I could have been struck by lightning.”
i
“Actually, getting eaten by a wild animal was the least of your worries.” He says sarcastically back to me, making me leave out a growl of frustration.
“I take it you two have already met.” His grandmother says, drawing our attention to her.
Placing a smile on my face, I thought two could play this game, as I said to his grandmother, “Chance here is the reason why I got lost in the first place.”
“Is that so?” She asked with a wooden spoon in her hand, looking at Chance as if she was going to beat
him with it.
Chance raised his hands in the air, as if he was surrendering to her, before he said to her, “That is not what happened. I offered to give her a ride home, but she refused to let me.”
A chuckle now slips from my lips, followed by a huff, as I say, “If throwing me over your shoulders like a
caveman, counts as offering.”
“Chance Micheal Ryder! I raised you better than that” She said, scolding him, as she began hitting him in the chest with the wooden spoon, putting a smile on my face, that I had his grandmother on my side
“I’m sorry.” He says to her, as she backs him up into me, making him realize he was cornered between the
two of us.
“Don’t tell me your sorry, tell her.” She then tells him, holding the wooden spoon up, threatening to strike

him again.
A growl rumbled from his chest, and she waved the spoon in the air, making him say, “Fine.” Before he turned to look at me. He stood there staring at me for a second, before he said to me, “I am sorry!”

For a second, I thought his apology was actually sincere, until a smile formed on his face, and he added,
For not forcing you to stay in my truck against your will.”
I could feel my blood boiling in my veins, as my hand tightened around the potato peeler in my hand, while I wanted to slap the smile right off his face. But the smile fell from his face on its own, as his eyes moved
to my hand.
“Raven, you’re bleeding.”
My eyes move to my hand to see blood dripping from it, as I drop the potato peeler from it, not knowing how I didn’t feel the pain before now. Chance grabbed a towel, wrapping it around my hand, as he tried to
stop it from bleeding, while the sight of the blood began to make me feel lightheaded.
