Chase’s POV

My damn brothers were impossible. Just when I thought that maybe the three of us could finally get along, the sons of a bitch accused me of hurting Raven, when, in actual reality, I had saved her ass today from an inevitable death. Not only did I save her ass, I took out the asshole who was responsible for the wolfsbane poisoning that almost took my brother and I
out.
But, of course, neither of them will ever know that, because they are both too quick to jump my ass for something I didn’t do. I get that they are protective of our little mate, but I learned my lesson in the janitor’s closet with her. Even without accepting her as my mate, I was still able to feel her fear as mine but also feel her pain and her desires.
Hurting her was like hurting myself, and I had enough damn pain of my own that I was carrying around, that I didn’t need to add hers on top of it. Yeah, I might have wanted to run her out of this town away from the misery that came with it, but now knowing that she was one of us, I was questioning if that was the best of ideas, especially if it could kill her.
Once I knew that Raven was in the house, I shifted into my wolf and took off towards Mrs. Jacobs’s house, now with the knowledge that she had answers to what happened all those years ago. I was sure that if she was going to speak to anyone it would be me, as she held onto the hope that I was going to make her daughter Luna of our pack.
After the last two days that I have had, the cool evening breeze felt refreshing, especially after being in the hospital, with its stale damn air, that felt like it was going to suffocate me. I had no clue how anyone could manage to work in a place like that, as I felt like it sucked my soul slowly out of my body.
Honestly, I didn’t know if it was the actual hospital or if it was the fact that it was a large building in a city, but what I did know is that I was never meant to live in such a place, and I had no clue how any wolf could live in a place like that. It made me wonder why Raven loved California so much and wanted to go back, as it had me questioning if she truly had a wolf, as all I knew of California to be made up of buildings three times the size of the hospital we were in tonight.
Regardless of whether Raven eventually chose to go back to California or stay here, it was clear that neither place was safe for her, as I had a gut feeling that her parents‘ deaths weren’t just an accident. Something was telling me that Raven was supposed to have perished in that accident too, and her being her right now wasn’t part of the plan. I am surprised that I was the first to question the accident that had led her back here, as it seemed too ironic it happened right before her eighteenth birthday, but I unfortunately had no

It was clear that there were so many missing pieces to the puzzle, and everywhere I turned I felt like I had hit a brick wall, only finding out bits and pieces to the past and what was happening today. I honestly thought that once I had discovered that our Uncle Ethan was alive, that he was going to be the one to expose everything, but I was quick to realize that he was living in the past.
All his mind was set on was revenge for what happened to him, and my father wasn’t any better. The two of them were focused on one thing and that was hunting down the Rogue Alpha King, but I think there was a bigger picture than just him. Unfortunately, right now, it was all speculation and different scenarios that my mind had conjured up, and I had not one ounce of evidence to prove any of it.
