Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 19

Chapter 13-3

My blood instantly began to boil at her mentioning my parentsdeaths. She was right. I wouldn’t be here if they hadn’t passed away, but that didn’t give her an excuse to think that she was better than me, and that she had more rights to be here sitting at this table than I did, when it was clear that the rest of the family wanted me here and not her.

I was just about ready to stand my ground against her, not caring any longer that she was the principal’s daughter, when Chance got to his feet, slamming his hands hard down on the table, before he said to her,How dare you speak of Raven’s parents and say that she doesn’t belong here, especially when Cash and I

want her here. If your socalled mate was being true to himself, he would admit that he wants her here too,

and he would throw your ass to the curb where it belongs.

I waited for his grandmother to once again scold him for his language, but she just sat there letting him

speak his mind to Jessica. Instead, an argument erupted between the brothers as they all got to their feet,

making me slide my chair away from the table in fear that this was going to get physical.

But before that could happen, Evan too got to his feet, as he yelled out, Enough!Making all three

brothers stop dead in their tracks to look at him.

Chase, I think it’s time for Jessica to go home.He then said, making Chase grab hold of her arm, helping

her out of her seat, as Jessica asked, Why is it that I have to go home, but she doesn’t?Clearly upset that

Evan was making her leave, but Chase didn’t answer her as he pulled her out of the dining room, and everyone stood in their place until they heard the screen door slam shut.

I watched Chance and Cash take a deep breath, before the two moved to sit down, as Evan remained

standing, clearly upset with the way his boys just behaved.

Getting to my feet, knowing that I had seen way too much of this family and their problems, especially with

Chase, I said to them, Thank you for having me over for dinner, but I think it is time for me to go home,

too.

I’ll take you home.” Chance says, as he moved to stand, throwing his napkin on the table over his plate, as it was clear that I wasn’t the only one that had lost my appetite, and needed to get out of here.

Raven, you don’t have to leave.” Evan kindly said to me, as their grandmother reached for my arm once

again.

Please stay and finish your dinner. I promised your grandmother that you would get a good homecooked meal tonight, and I wouldn’t want to go back on my word to her.

Looking down at their grandmother, I found myself unable to leave, as I had developed a soft spot for her in the short period of time I had spent with her. Unable to tell her no, I slowly sat back down, not wanting

to ruin her dinner, even though I felt like I already had.
