Chapter 140-1
Chapter 140-1
Raven’s POV
“Whatever you are doing, stop it now!” I said to Lexi through gritted teeth, as I pointed out the front door to absolutely nothing.
Crossing her arms over her chest, as she shakes her head at me, she bluntly tells me, “I’m sorry, but no. Your heat may seem to have subsided, but that is only because you are away from your mates. My elixir will stop working at first sight of them. So, I can’t allow you anywhere near them.”
My eyes narrowed as I glared at her, wondering whose side she was on, because now, by the sounds of it, she didn’t want me to be marked by them. It now truly had me questioning if I could trust her, because just a moment ago she was saying that if I wasn’t marked by all three of them before this super moon, then I better pray that I made it to the next one.
A low growl rumbled from deep within my chest, as my hands balled into fists by my sides, while I tried not to lose my shit, but it was far too late for that. I had had enough of everyone’s bullshit, and especially all the lies and betrayals that had occurred, but what had me pissed off the most was everyone trying to dictate my life.
Stepping away from the door, I marched right over to Lexi, pinning my nose right to hers, as I plain out asked her, “Whose side are you on?”
Lexi just stared at me, not saying a single word, telling me that her actions were being dictated by the paycheck and orders that she received. My stomach now turned into knots, as I shook my head in disbelief, knowing now the truth about Lexi, and what her true intentions were. I could see that I had been played like a fool, and now I was thinking about whether I could trust my own intuitions.
Taking a step back from Lexi, I stared straight into her eyes, while I said to her, “I can’t believe that I was stupid enough to not see through this façade of yours. I was a fool to trust you and believe that you were truly my friend, but now I can see that I am just a paycheck to you.”
Lexi’s eyes narrowed as she continued to stare at me, and through her own gritted teeth, she said to me, “It’s not like that.”
Throwing my arms up in the air as I take another step back from her, I say, “Then enlighten all of us. What exactly is it like then?”
Lexi’s eyes remained on me for a few seconds before her eyes wandered to Jacob, and then to Mazie. Finally, she turned back to look at me and began to clear her throat as if she had a frog stuck in it, before she says to me, “I admit at first that you were nothing but a job to me…
Chapter 140-1
At that moment, my arms crossed over my chest, as my foot began to tap nervously, and I looked away, because just hearing her admit that I was a job to her, made me want to hurl. I don’t know why it was so upsetting to hear it from her lips, because in my mind I already knew it, but I guess my heart was still holding onto the hope that our friendship was real.
“But then you and Jacob both grew on me.” She then added, making me quickly look back at her, wondering if she was being real, or if this was just another game she was playing with
But as I stared into her eyes, I clearly noticed something different in them. It was as if there was sorrow present in them, an emotion that I truly never thought that Lexi had the capability to feel, as she had always walked around with a heart as cold as ice.
I wanted to believe that she was being sincere, but I found myself now hesitant to trust her, and it still didn’t clarify the reason she was keeping me from my mates. I now felt like I was the one that had the heart of ice, as I didn’t even blink an eye to her confession.
