Chapter 187-3
Tears once again began to pool in my eyes, not out of sadness but out of anger towards myself for thinking that for once he had chosen me. Closing my eyes, I did my best from allowing those tears to flow down my cheeks, while I bit down hard on my bottom lip trying to gain control.
Just like Chase, I was at war with my wolf, and even though she hadn’t fully shown herself yet, it was clear that she was stronger than I could have imagined. But one of us had to gain control of the situation, and I knew by the torment in Chase’s eyes it had to be me, because I wasn’t going to accept his mark if it truly wasn’t him that was willingly giving it.
As I began to try and recoil from the temptation, more heat rose in my core, making me bite down harder on my lip, trying to keep myself from screaming out in pain and luring Chase’s wolf even more than I had already. I winced as the taste of iron invaded my mouth, while tears began to seep from the corners of my tightened eyelids, but I held strong, trying to push through my heat that was now completely taking over my body.
Through all the misery and pain, I hadn’t noticed that Chase had released my arms, until I heard his voice hoarsely call out my name from a distance. My eyes slowly opened, releasing the dam of tears, as I tried to focus on the direction I had heard his voice.
“I’m sorry…” Continuously came apologetically from his lips, and even though I couldn’t see his face, I knew by the brokenness of his voice that he too was suffering.
It wasn’t until I heard him painfully say, “I can’t do this.” Did something within me break.
The screams that I had done my best to conceal broke free, as the feeling of his rejection hit me like a ton of bricks. When my screams no longer produced vocals, I just lay there, barely able to feel my heart beating, as I half waited to hear the door slam, but to my surprise that
slam never came.
Instead, I felt my wrists being untied, before my body was lifted from the bed and the oversized tee shirt was once again draped over my body. To my surprise, Chase was holding me tightly in his arms, quickly making his way across the room with me towards the slightly opened window.
Chase paused as he fully opened the window, looking over the windowsill’s edge, before he looked down at me and asked, “Do you trust me?”
I looked up at him, wondering if this was him or his wolf, but as I stared into his eyes, I didn’t see even a glimpse of his wolf. But even knowing that it was him that was asking it was a loaded question, but ultimately, I did trust him, because he had always been the one brutally

honest with me.
As if he got his answer from my thoughts, he jumped straight out the window, protectively tucking me in his arms, making me question if I truly did trust him.
