Chapter 205-2

Peering around the statue, I quickly noticed the backpack hanging off one of Jacob’s shoulders, telling me that whatever he was about to do, it wasn’t here on my grandfather’s

estate.

“If he is going to listen to any of us, it’s going to be me. Besides, this place gives me the creeps, and it will be nice to get some fresh country air.” Jacob reinsures her, now making me even more curious about where he was heading to, especially since he was planning on leaving without telling me that he was.

“Very well.” Lexi says, stopping in the middle of the hallway, fixing the collar on Jacob’s shirt, before she continues to say to him like a threat, “But remember there are some things that aren’t to be said. We need to keep the peace until Raven’s wolf awakens.”

I watched Jacob at that moment swallow hard, obviously nervous that he might now say the wrong thing, but he eventually nodded at Lexi, letting her know that he understood his assignment. As for me, I was now beyond curious where she was sending him, and why he had to watch what he said, but I knew if I made my presence known right now to them, I would lose my chance of meeting Liam.

Knowing that I could confront Jacob when he returned from his whereabouts, I decided on the latter of the two, and kept myself hidden behind the statue until the two of them disappeared from my sight. Once I knew that the coast was clear, I moved swiftly down the hallway towards the back door before anyone else could catch me.

Once I had finally made it successfully outside the estate, I headed straight for the garden, but trying to go unseen was going to be virtually impossible, as my grandfather’s men were literally everywhere today. It seems that yesterday’s little intrusion by Liam had caused more of a ruckus than I thought it had, making me wonder if his scent that was left behind left a threat of his presence here. I was new to this world, but I wasn’t completely oblivious to knowing that Liam’s wolf was massive.

Nonchalantly, I walked towards the garden, smiling kindly at those that looked in my direction, while I continued to move my feet towards the south side of the garden without hesitation. Thankfully, the deeper I got within the garden, the less I could feel their eyes on me, telling me that I had avoided the majority of my grandfather’s men.

When I finally reached the rose garden, I stopped by the bench I had taken a seat on last night and stared in the direction that Liam had disappeared in, as I contemplated whether I was foolish for meeting him. Lately, I would be the first to admit that I had been making some pretty stupid decisions, but in the end, they all seemed to have worked out.

Honestly, I felt like this was one of those moments when I needed to know what Liam had to say to me, regardless of whatever the consequences were. There was a part of me that felt like I could still trust him, even though he had clearly deceived me back at the institution. But now, realizing that my grandfather had nothing to do with us becoming friends, I had to wonder how it happened, because if you ask me, it was a little bit too ironic.

With my mind made up, I took one last look around the rose garden, making sure that no eyes were on me, before I stood from the bench and made my way to the south side of the garden where Liam had disappeared, now more determined than ever to hear him out. But as I entered the tree line, I stopped and looked back at my grandfather’s estate one last time, praying to God that whatever was about to happen, it wouldn’t affect those that I love and care about, because the last thing I wanted to do was to hurt any of them.

With that prayer sent to the heavens, I turned and made haste on the beaten down path, hoping that Liam was already there so that I could get back to my grandfather’s estate before Chase missed me. But as I continued to walk that old beaten path, it didn’t take long before I was rethinking my decision, as I began to wish that I had a pair of ruby slippers that I could click together to send me directly back to the estate. It was clear that I was no longer in Kansas, as what was left of the sun was barely able to make its presence known through the density of the trees, making the forest look dark and dreary.

My heart began to race, as my walk quickly became a run, especially when I heard shuffling of fallen leaves behind me. My mind was now racing a mile a minute thinking that I had fallen for some kind of trap since there was no damn river even in sight.

But as I continued to run like my life depended on it, the river finally came into my view. Feeling relieved to see it, I sprinted the last hundred yards towards it, but just when I was about to break the tree line I froze when a way too familiar wolf stepped directly into my path, stopping me right before I could get to my destination.
