Chapter 205-1

Raven’s POV

For hours last night, I laid awake, too afraid to close my eyes. This time though, it wasn’t Liam’s wolf that haunted my dreams, but his words. His warning about it being unsafe here for me honestly came as no surprise to me, but the words he had me wanting to further question him about were the ones he had whispered into my ear.

He had me beyond scared that he had seen a darkness in me, one that I was for sure was similar to the one that I had seen inside my grandfather yesterday. There was no doubt in my mind that this darkness he was talking about was what had caused the dreadful fire that erupted inside of me. If it wasn’t for him coaxing me to do the exercises I had learned back at the institution, I fear that darkness would have won.

Besides all of that, the thing that stumped me the most was, if he truly wasn’t working for my grandfather, how did Liam and I both end up in that same institution in California? But those weren’t the only questions I now had running rapidly through my mind, as his appearance last night had my mind running away with itself.

There was a reason why I hadn’t directly said no to his invitation to meet him today, and that was because I was unsure of so many things, that I didn’t want to make an irrational decision that I would regret. Now that I had time to think it all over, I didn’t feel like there was any harm in meeting him and hearing him out. There clearly was a reason why he was here, and after everything that has happened lately, I believed it was in my best interest to hear what he had

to say.

Now my only problem was, how was I going to be able to sneak off my grandfather’s estate now that Chase had come back from wherever he had disappeared to?

Since the moment he found me in the gardens, he hasn’t let me literally out of his sight. To tell the truth, he hasn’t taken his hands off me. All night long, he held me tightly in his arms, even when I knew that he had fallen into a deep sleep. Now that morning was upon us, he still had my body in an anaconda hold with his arms and his legs tightly wrapped around me, almost as if yesterday had put some fear in him about losing me.

Thankfully, when he finally awakens from his deep slumber, he loosens his hold on me, not just physically but also mentally, as he confesses to me that he has matters to attend to with my grandfather. After what had transpired yesterday between all of us in the throne hall, I had to give seeing my grandfather so soon a hard pass, even though I knew eventually I would have to face him again.

I was all about giving people second chances, but after what Liam had said to me last night,

Chapter 205-1

I’d like to know exactly who it was that I was giving this second chance too. Plus, this was giving me the window I needed to slip off the estate to meet up with Liam.

“Are you sure you don’t want to come with me?” Chase asked me one last time as he stood in the doorway, and for a moment I felt like there was an underlining question lingering with the one he just asked, but when I said, “I’m just not ready to face him again.” Chase thankfully lets it go, and leaves without further pushing the subject with me.

Now that Chase was busy with my grandfather, I carefully moved around the estate, trying to go unnoticed as I made my way to one of the exits, hoping for a clean break. But before 1 could make it to one of the back doors, Lexi and Jacob stepped out of a room into the hallway, forcing me to quickly move behind a massive sculpture to hide myself from them.

“Are you sure that you will be fine doing this alone?” Lexi asked Jacob, as I watched them move down the hallway towards the front of the estate.
