Chapter 207
Raven’s POV
Well, this definitely wasn’t looking good for me. My plan was to come here, hear Liam out, and then, get my ass back to the estate before Chase even noticed that I was gone. But now, well, it sure the hell looked like things were about to get messy, as I could just feel the testosterone radiating from these two.
For a moment, I thought about stepping between them, but then I realized that I didn’t have a death wish today. By the way they were looking at each other, I would have sworn they were sizing each other up, but then again, I didn’t know which team Liam batted for.
With that thought, a half chuckle from Liam broke the awkward silence, while the corners of his lips raised into a smirk, before his eyes moved to me, as he says, “I can assure you that I bat for the opposite team.”
My mouth dropped open, before my hand slapped over it, wondering if I somehow had mistakenly worded my thoughts out loud under stress, but veering my gaze from Liam to Chase, I realized that he was just as confused as I was.
Another chuckle at that moment came from Liam, this time drawing our full attention back to him, before he said this time to me, “I see you brought dumber with you.”
“Dumber…” Chase growled, as he stepped forward, going toe to toe with Liam, but Liam was a good five inches taller than him, and it was clear he wasn’t backing down.
Instead, he continued to taunt Chase by saying, “Yeah, you heard me right. Who the hell is stupid enough to offer their mate on a goddamn silver platter to the Alpha Rogue King? Only a damn fool would do something that stupid.”
Those words earned Liam another growl from Chase. This time I was sure out of anger and frustration, but Chase wasn’t backing down to him. Instead, Chase nudged himself even closer to Liam, leaving not even the tiniest of a space between them, before he gritted his teeth together and said to him, “You have no clue what the hell you are talking about. That Alpha Rogue King is her grandfather, but I guess you wouldn’t know that since you aren’t a part of what is really going on here.”
Once again, Liam chuckled, but this time Liam looked away from Chase for what seemed like a long minute, as he looked like he was contemplating continuing this little bash session between the two of them. For a moment, it looked like Chase had put him in his place, but I should have known that Liam was far too clever to let that happen.
A sly look at that moment formed on Liam’s face, before I watched his hand move to his

chin. Slowly he began to rub it like he was now lost in thought, before he finally turned back to Chase and said, “It seems that it’s you that doesn’t know what’s really going on here. You may have saved your own ass by bringing her here, but if she stays here, she will die, because she hasn’t mastered fighting off the darkness that lives inside of her.”
Chase immediately let out a huff, while he narrowed his eyes and began to shake his head at Liam, before he said, “You have no clue what the hell you are talking about.” As he obviously didn’t believe a single damn word Liam had just said, but I, on the other hand, did.
I knew exactly what darkness Liam was talking about, as I had seen it inside my grandfather’s eyes yesterday and I had felt it trying to take me over in the garden last night. Honestly, if it wasn’t for Liam showing up out of the blue, I might have lost myself to it.
With his reminder of the exercises I had learned in the institution, I was able to keep it at bay, but it now had me truly wondering if that was why Liam had friended me in the first place. Now that I knew he was a rogue, it only made sense that he was able to sniff me out, but what didn’t make sense was why he felt so compelled to help me.
Back at the institution, it was his job as an intern to make sure to look over me, but it wasn’t in his job description to travel clear across the country to continue his treatments. No, there had to be something he wasn’t telling me.
For a moment I felt fear, thinking that maybe he was working for the rogues that wanted me dead, but if that was the case, he could have very well killed me while I had been drugged up and chained to a bed. So, there went that idea of him being here to harm me, because he had far too many chances beforehand to end my life, and never did.
Actually, looking back, he had always been the one that was there holding my hand, helping me work my way through the now so–called panic attacks. This was now leading me to believe that he wouldn’t have just come here if it wasn’t for him truly believing I was in danger.
Realizing that Liam meant no harm, I found myself taking a step back, as I stared now at the two of them at each other’s throats, both believing that they were doing what was right for me. But I had a problem with this whole situation, as neither one of them was asking me what I wanted.
Honestly, I didn’t want to be here, as I wanted to be back in Beaumont with Chance and Cash, letting them know that I was alive and well, but I knew if I was there with them, then Chase would be stuck here alone with my grandfather. From what I understood, the two of them had made some damn deal to save the pack and Beaumont, and the only way their alliance was going to stand was if I stayed here with Chase, playing dead,
Don’t get me wrong, I was happy that no one had tried to kill me in the last forty–eight hours,

but that luxury came with a price, one that I felt like Chase never should have agreed to
A low growl at that moment drew me from my thoughts, drawing my attention straight to Chase just in the nick of time to see his eyes flash red. I stared at him for a few seconds, thinking that my eyes were playing tricks on me, but the more his cheeks heated with anger. the brighter his eyes were illuminating.
For the first time since Liam and Chase went toe to toe, Liam took a step back, but I could tell that it wasn’t out of fear of Chase, but something else. Liam now stared between Chase and me, like he was trying to piece together what the hell was going on here, as I was trying to do the same myself.
In all the times I had seen Chase’s wolf, his eyes have always been the most beautiful shade of amber gold, but today, something was clearly changing inside of him. I must not have been the only one that could tell, because at that moment, Liam took a step right in front of me, blocking me from Chase’s view, as he asked Chase, “What the hell have you done?”
