Chapter 208

Raven’s POV

Raven, go back to the estate, now!Chase’s voice demanded of me, before a low growl rumbled the earth beneath our feet, but if he thought he could just bark orders at me like that, then he was freaking nuts.

This whole time I had remained silent, letting the two of them hash things out, but I still had none of the answers I had come here for. I would be damned if I was going to head back to the estate like a good little girl, while the two of them hash out who the hell is the most macho of the two. Besides that, there was clearly something Chase was hiding from me, and I wasn’t going anywhere until I got to the bottom of it.

She isn’t going anywhere, especially if it’s near you.Liam now said protectively, as he remained in front of me, and I knew by the sound of both their voices, it was just a matter of time before one of them lost their shit.

Oh yeah, well, she isn’t your mate. So, back the hell off!Chase now growled at him, as he moved to step around Liam to get to me.

But Liam was too quick for Chase, and thankfully he was able to grab a hold of him just before he could get to me, but not before I had the chance to see Chase’s eyes were now glowing a steady brilliant red. For a split second, I had to glance at them, my mouth dropped open, while I stumbled back a few feet, as I now could see what Liam was blocking me from. Moving my hand to cover my mouth, now that I was in complete shock, I numbly stood there staring at Chase in total disbelief, wondering how on earth this could have happened. But then I heard Liam and Chase disputing once again, catching the tail end of Liam saying to Chase, You sold your soul to the devil for power. It was at that moment that I began to piece together what was happening to him.

Yesterday, Jacob had told me that my dearest grandfather and Chase had been working all morning on a plan to stop the rogue Alphas that were after me. Then, later that morning, Lexi had spilled the beans that Chase was to take the throne as my mate and my grandfather’s

successor.

Staring at him now from around the side of Liam, I realized that by him doing so, he was having to pay a hefty price, and I wondered if he fully understood the severity of what he had gotten himself into. But then I heard Chase say, No, I sold my soul to protect all those that I love.Making me realize that he knew damn straight what he had done.

Chase had obviously renounced his family and his pack to be here, and by doing that, he was

now turning into the same thing that he was trying to protect us all from. Honestly, I don’t know why on earth he would choose this, because there had to be another way, but the more I thought about what it had cost him, I realized he wasn’t the only one that was going to pay the price.

Foolishly, I had been oblivious to all this beforehand, but now I realized that Chase had made a choice for me that shouldn’t have been his to make. By allowing him to claim me as his mate, he had forever sealed my ties with my grandfather and the rogues, something that I wasn’t quite sure I wanted, especially after seeing a glimpse of my grandfather’s battle with this damn darkness. But now, I guess I really didn’t have a choice left in the matter, because Chase had selfishly made that choice for me.

You, asshole!Shouted from my lips before I could stop it, as I pushed right past Liam, getting right into Chase’s face.

Honestly, I didn’t give a rat’s ass how damn red his eyes were now staring back at me, because I too was beginning to see red. Someone needed to hand me a damn CB because I was cursing like a god dang trucker, pissed beyond words that he had taken away choices that were meant for me to make, not him.

Chase just stood there, staring down at me, as I pounded my fists wildly against his chest, while tears began to seep from the corners of my eyes, not out of sadness, but sheer anger directed straight at him. My voice was quickly becoming horsed as I continuously now kept repeating, Why Chase? Why?While my fist began to lose what little strength they had in

them.

I would have thought that at some point that Chase would try to stop and comfort me, but he didn’t. Instead, he just stood there, taking the beating I was giving him, knowing damn straight that he deserved it.

After I had accused him yesterday morning of being selfish, I had taken that back, believing that I was too harsh on him, but now, knowing what I know, I was in the right for what I had said. But none of that made me feel any better. If anything, it just added salt to the cut, making it sting even more than it already did.

Feeling destroyed by the hands of my own mate, I lost my will to fight him, as I placed my fist and forearms flush against his chest, before I leaned against them, now sobbing into his chest, like a blubbering mess. I stayed that way for a few seconds, just wanting him to breakdown and comfort me, but man was I a fool for thinking that he would.

Seeing that my accusations of him were correct, I pushed myself off his chest and took a step back, as I stared through my tearfilled eyes at him, praying that he would just lose that rough exterior of his. But even now that we are mated, some things I should have known would never change

Chapter 200

I hate you.” Hurtfully came from my lips before I could stop it, but unlike yesterday, I wasn’t going to retract what I said.

Chase and I, from the start, had a love and hate relationship, and it was clear that the hate part was now becoming more than the love part, as I couldn’t do this anymore with him. He had stabbed me in the heart on more than one occasion, but this time, he had put the icing right on the cake for me, sealing my hatred towards him.

As if he was unfazed by my words, Chase just continued to just stand there, staring right through me with those red glowing eyes of his, that were no longer familiar to me. Incoherently, I found myself stepping backwards, putting distance between us, until my back went flush against Liam’s chest.

It was at that moment that Chase’s steady gaze decided to falter, making my blood begin to boil thinking that our love wasn’t enough, but his damn jealousy was. But as he moved to step forward, I quickly realized that wasn’t why his eyes had strayed, especially when he heartlessly told Liam, Get her the hell out of here.

Without giving me even a damn glance, Chase marches right past me, shifting into his wolf, making me turn to finally see what had made him move.
