Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 42

Chapter 25-2

Exiting the school website, 1 began to stroll down my search, looking for an obituary for him or a police report of his death, but to my surprise nothing was coming up. That’s weird. There’s no obituary for Ethan Ryder on the web.

Maybe the family wanted to keep it private.Mazie implied, but that wasn’t how things worked, at least

not where I was from, but I guess this was a small town, and things could be done differently here.

Turning my phone off, I let out a huff of frustration, as I hit a brick wall to find out what happened to Ethan,

and nowhere closer to finding out what that thing was that stalked me in the locker room. The one thing I

did know was that this thing was lurking somewhere within Beaumont, because if it had been here when

my mother lived here, then it wasn’t going away on its own. The one thing that I couldn’t understand was

why it had shown itself to my mother and then to me.

Don’t worry Raven. We will figure this all out, but until then, we need to stick together.Mazie says, as if having someone with me was going to make me feel better, but that wasn’t going to be the case.

If anything, I felt like I was going to be putting all their lives in danger, being around me, as it was clear that this thing had it out for my family. It had driven my mother out of this town, and now I felt like it was

wanting to do the same thing to me.

Mazie, I can’t ask you or anyone for that fact to be near me all the time. Plus, I have a gut feeling that this thing is after me, and I don’t want anyone to get hurt because of me.

Mazie places her hands on my shoulders, as she gives me a sober stare, before she says to me, Listen Raven. Think of us like a pack. We stick together, and we take care of our own.”

But that’s the thing Mazie, I’m not one of you. I just moved here, and I can’t expect any of you to put your

lives in the line of fire for me.

What? Now you are listening to Jessica. Come on Raven, you know its horseshit and that you belong here. If your mother hadn’t moved away all those years ago, we would have grown up together, and you wouldn’t be questioning now where you belong. And besides, I don’t have too many friends other than Cash, and to be honest, you’re the first girl that I considered my friend. Please just trust me on this one

and allow me to help you.

I stood there staring at Mazie, knowing that she was the first person here at Beaumont who welcomed me with open arms. In the little time that I knew her, I knew I could trust her to have my back, that’s unless Cash was involved. The only time she had failed me was leaving me with Chance at the waterhole, to run off with Cash, but in the end, she had done me a solid.

Fine, I will trust you on this one, but we are going to somehow have to figure out what happened to Ethan. Do you think there’s a way that you could ask Cash, since the two of you are so close? I’d ask Chance, but I really don’t think he wants to hear about a love triangle between my mother, his father, and his dead uncle.

Mazie shook her head, before she said, It’s not a problem. I’ll ask Cash tomorrow about it and have him keep it on the low. I’m sure if he personally doesn’t know the answer, then we will find a way to find out. Just promise me that you won’t do anything stupid on your own, and that you will make sure that one of us is always with you until we figure this out.

Okay. I won’t do anything stupid told her before she had to leave for the night, and in a way, I didn’t want her to go, because even though we were talking about the monster that had attacked me, I felt not as scared, with her being here with me.

But I knew that eventually there were going to be moments when I was alone, and I was going to have to learn how to cope with it, because even after taking my medication, it didn’t simmer my fear or my anxiety. What was happening to me now wasn’t my imagination playing tricks on me, this was real live crazy shit, that almost seemed too unreal to be true. But with the evidence that they had found in the locker room, I knew that I wasn’t going crazy, especially because Mazie believed me, and that meant the world to me.

For the first time since the accident, I wasn’t told that I was losing it, but instead, I had someone who was willing to be there for me, and stand beside me, and that was what I needed right now in my life to pull me

from the darkness that had consumed me.
