Chapter 25-1
Raven’s POV
At first, I was pissed when Mazie confessed that they had opened my phone, but then when she explained
how jealous Chance got at seeing the picture of Jacob and me together, I couldn’t help but burst out
laughing, as Mazie stared at me with a confused look on her face. It served Chance right for looking at my phone, but as for Jacob and me dating, that would never happen in a gazillion years.
“He really thinks that Jacob and I were a thing?” I asked her as I tried to catch my breath, needing a good
laugh after everything that happened today.
“Yeah, I mean that’s what it looks like in the picture.”
“Mazie, look at the picture closer. Does he look like the kind of guy that dates girls?” I asked her as I handed her my phone, and she took a closer look at Jacob, before the look of recognition formed on her face, as I explained to her, “Jacob was my best friend back home, and he was on the cheering squad with me. We have been friends since kindergarten, and even though he is the most amazing person I have ever met in this world, full of life and love, nothing, and I mean nothing, would ever transpire between us.”
“Wait. He’s gay?” She says out loud before she too busts out, laughing, as she says through her laughter,” This is priceless, and even better than you having a boyfriend back home. If only you could have seen the jealous look on his face.”
From what little I knew of Chance, it was clear that he was protective, and maybe a little possessive. I never took him as the jealous type, leading me to believe that he truly liked me, but I wasn’t going to correct him on the fact that I didn’t have a boyfriend back in California. Instead, I was going to let him stew on what he assumed and let him continue to think that Jacob was more than just a friend, as punishment for invading my privacy.
Now that I had a good laugh, it was time to get back to the dark side of what happened today, as I took my phone back from Mazie, and began to search for Ethan Ryder on the web. The service at my grandmother’s house was splotchy, and it felt like it was taking forever for it to load onto my phone, as I leaned towards the window, knowing that there was a spot where the service worked best.
Finally, my search loaded, and my eyes focused on a man that looked exactly like Evan, as it was clear they were identical twins. There were a ton of articles linked to Beaumont High about the amazing football career he had in his senior year, with a couple of photos that I flipped through but stopped when I saw my mother in her cheering uniform, standing on the football field with him.
Just like in the picture with Evan, hanging on the vanity mirror, Ethan had his arm around her, and my mother was wearing a huge smile, making me wonder if there wasn’t something going on between the two of them too. Even though my grandmother said that my mother only had eyes for Evan, it was apparent that Evan wasn’t the only one that could make my mother smile.
“I’m guessing that’s your mother.” Mazie says to me, as she leans over my shoulder looking at the picture

with me, while I take a screenshot of it, wanting to keep it for future reference
“Look, there’s Mrs. Jacobs.” Mazie then said, pointing to a girl standing on the other side of Ethan, staring at him, as if she had googly eyes for him.
“Looks like Mrs. Jacobs had the hots for Ethan.”
“Like mother, like daughter, I guess.” Maxie then says, obviously referring to Jessica and Chase, but by the looks of things, she never had her chance of dating Ethan, because, by the way, he was looking at my
mother, he only had eyes for her.
