I only paused for a second, making sure that he was still breathing, before I turned and bear crawled the rest of the distance to Lexi. Thankfully, before she could notice, I was across the room, grabbing hold of her leg so tightly that there was no way in hell she was going to escape my grip on her.

Snapping out of whatever trance she was in, Lexi let out a partial scream, before her head tilted down and her leg began to try and shake me off. It wasn’t until she noticed that it was me, did she pull her shit together.

Realizing I wasn’t a threat, her eyes now veered from mine back to where the real threat was for a split second, before she turned and looked over her shoulder, as I wondered what the hell was going through that head of hers. But to my surprise, she didn’t leave me wondering for too long.

Reaching down, Lexi roughly grabbed a hold of my shoulders, before abruptly pulling me to my feet. Before I knew what the hell was happening, she had pulled me out of the bedroom and into the hallway.

With her hand wrapped tightly around my wrist, she yanked on my arm, trying to force me to come with her, but I wasn’t leaving, and neither was she. Yanking my arm from her grasp, I sternly said, “No!” to her, as I in returned grabbed hold of her forearm, pulling her back towards the room, as I now said to her, “We have to stop the darkness before it kills them.”

Lexi began to fight me tooth and nail, as she tried to free her hand from me, while she pleaded with me by saying, “It’s too late. It’s too strong. We have to get out of here.” But the more she pleaded with me, the more I realized that I couldn’t leave them, but unfortunately, Lexi clearly wasn’t going to help.

Seeing this, I let go of her arm, ending the match of tug and war between us, before throwing my hands up in the air as I said to her, “Fine then. Go ahead and run. But know that all our deaths could have been avoided if you hadn’t run like a god–damn coward.”

Turning, I began to walk back towards the door, not knowing what I was going to do to stop this, just knowing I wasn’t going to leave without them. But as I made my way to the threshold, the door slammed shut right in my face, stopping me from being able to get back to their sides.

I screamed out, “No!” as I pounded my fists hard against the door, while tears began to pool in the corners of my eyes out of anger, realizing that the door wasn’t budging

“Damnit Lexi!” I screamed, right before I turned to face her, ready to give her a piece of my

mind, before demanding that she open the door.

But as I turned, my body froze as I was sure my mind was playing tricks on me. My hand moved to cover my fallen mouth, while warm tears began to flow freely down my cheeks, seeing that Lexi was no longer standing alone.
