Chapter 235-1
Chance’s POV
Chbare
“That snake, I’m going to kill him.” Chase growls as he slams his fist down hard on the boardroom table, causing the oak wood that it was carved from to crack beneath his fist.
“I can’t believe that son of a bitch was an Alpha rogue all this time. He must have a damn witch on his side masking his scent.” Cash then adds in denial, while he stares blankly at the door, as the three of us wait impatiently for news about our mate’s wellbeing.
As the two of them continued to go back and forth on conspiracies of how Jacob had pulled the wool over our eyes, I stood there in silence, staring out the window, watching our father and uncle in their own little dispute. So much but so little at the same time had been uncovered about their past tonight, making me wonder what really happened twenty-two years ago between them and Raven’s mother.
Knowing that we weren’t going to get answers just sitting around, I pushed myself off the wall I was leaning against and headed straight for the door. Cash and Chase were so caught up in their dispute that neither of them noticed me even leaving. As I walked down the empty hallways, I found myself not truly believing that we were all here at the Alpha Rogue King’s estate, fighting on the same damn side.
All these years, my father and the pack had pounded in our heads that the Alpha Rogue King was our enemy, but here we were, mated to his granddaughter, and fighting to save his estate and the people that followed him. From what little I have seen tonight, his followers seemed to be strays that were only here because no one else wanted them.
They weren’t ruthless like the other rogues we had encountered in the past, and seeing them now in the courtyard, bandaging their wounded, it was clear that these rogues acted more like caring pack members. Honestly, if I had met them on the streets, I would never in a million years have thought them to be rogues, leading me to believe that my father and pack had misunderstood Raven’s grandfather all these years.
It now had me wondering if he had been a good man until he could no longer fight off the darkness that plagued his ancestors. Maybe his intentions for bringing Raven here were to set him free from the curse, but unfortunately, I don’t believe we will ever truly know the truth, because Raven was still unconscious, and her grandfather was barely hanging on from what Lexi had told us.
Doing my best to avoid interrupting the Alpha Rogue King’s people from helping their wounded, I walked around the edge of the courtyard, but my presence didn’t go unnoticed like I had planned it too. One by one, the rogues began to lower their heads to me, as they acknowledged my status, by formally addressing me with, “Alpha.”
My eyes began at that moment to wander through those that were gathered here, and I couldn’t help but to see all the helpless women and children that were now standing among the rogues that fought by our side. Just seeing the worry in their eyes, not knowing what their future holds for them, tugged at my heart,
Unfortunately, I didn’t know what I could actually do for them, as I wasn’t truly a part of their world. Eventually, my brothers and I would have to return back home to care for our own pack, but just as ! thought that, my eyes turned straight ahead of me and landed on Liam. Instantly, the unsureness of what status I truly held hit me like a freight train, because if what Jacob had claimed to be true about Liam, then Liam was our pack’s rightful heir.
As if Liam could sense my restless uncertainties, he says to me, “I think the two of us need to have a talk.”

Claim
Without saying another word, Liam turned and began to walk towards the garden, away from all the eyes and ears that were now on us. I knew that eventually this conversation was going to be had, but I never thought it would come so soon, making me believe that Liam didn’t want to wait to stake his claim as our pack’s true Alpha. But as we come to a halt in the middle of the garden, away from all the prying eyes and ears to hear us, he turns to face me man to man with a look of indifference on his face.
