Chapter 236-1
Chance’s POV
+25 Points
There was no doubt in my mind that my father and uncle had a ton of hostility towards each other, and I honestly wasn’t about to pick sides. I could easily see the wrong in both of their doings, but they needed to pull their damn shit together, because right now, wasn’t the time or the place to be acting like freaking adolescence.
But as I stood there next to Liam, watching the two of them going at it, a part of me thought maybe it was for the best to let them hash it out right here and right now, so that we could just move forward and leave the past in the past. Unfortunately, I knew that even by letting them rip at each other’s throats, it wasn’t going to change each of their wrong doings, and we needed them in good health just in case Jacob decided to return.
I must not have been the only one thinking that way, because Liam, at that moment, shifted into his massive Alpha wolf, before leaving out a low growl in their direction. I watched as the fur on both my father’s and uncle’s wolves’ backs ruffled, before they paused, turning to face Liam’s wolf.
Beyond agitated and frustrated, Liam’s wolf let out another growl, this time claiming his authority here at the estate, letting them know that their behavior here was unacceptable, while his wolf stood up tall like a King. Strangely, Liam had been the one not raised in our world, but here he was showing more poise and leadership, more than all of us put together.
But as he continued to stand his ground against the elders of our family, I watched his eyes begin to flicker ever so slightly, between amber and red. It was as if his wolf was slowly accepting his desire to be a rogue, even though he now rightfully belonged to a pack.
My uncle was the first to submit, shifting back into his human form, but I quickly realized that I had been totally wrong to think that he had submitted to Liam, when he said, “No. I will not let you become what ruined me.”
Liam’s wolf let out one more low growl, before he shifted back into his human form, splitting the distance that remained between him and his father. Coldly, his eyes stared down at the man that he shared DNA with, before he put him once again in his place by saying, “You have no right or authority to tell me what to do. Although it is unclear what transpired all those years ago, I can see from your recent behavior why my mother left and never looked back.”
Shaking his head, my uncle looked as if he was struggling to fight back his tears, as his hands by his sides slowly balled into fists. Through his own demons, and feeling the regrets of his past, he said back to Liam, “You have this all wrong. Everything! did, I did for her. I wasn’t the one that drove her away all those years ago.”
“If it wasn’t you, then who was it?” Liam now asks with sarcasm in his tone, thinking that he had backed his father into a comer, but instead, that simple question he just asked him was about to change not only the way he looks at his own father, but the way I look at mine too.
“It was Evan. He was the one that had come up with this whole damn master plan of me playing dead He said that if I remained dead, then your mother would remain safe. Never would I have agreed to that plan if I knew that you existed.”
My eyes quickly shifted to look at my father, who was shifting back into his human form, ready to defend

himself, by saying, “No, it didn’t go down like that. You weren’t safe to be around her or anyone, for that matter. Whatever the hell that black mist was tonight that lingered over the battlefield was the same darkness that took over your wolf all those years ago. You have no clue what the hell I had to do to save your ass from it and the cover up all the destruction you had caused, and as for Carla, she was completely afraid of you after that. Do you even know how many nights she cried in my arms, unable to close her eyes in fear that your wolf would visit her dreams? I didn’t help her leave, brother. She left by her own free will, as she was too afraid to stay. So, no, it wasn’t me that made her leave. It was you.”
