Chapter 240-1

Raven’s POV

“All these years I thought my parents had abandoned me.” Lexi franticly said out loud, more to herself than to anyone else, as Mazie escorted her to an armchair next to the bed. As she took her seat, I watched the tough exterior she always wore completely vanish from her face, as tears began to seep from the corners of her eyes.

Honestly, I don’t know if she is in complete shock from finally hearing what truly happened to her mother, or if she is just now morning her loss, but either way, my heart was aching for her, knowing exactly how she must be feeling. But my heart mustn’t have been the only heart in the room that was bearing some of her pain, as everyone was now eerily quiet, including Evan and Ethan, who had put their differences to the side for the moment.

It was as if we were all giving Lexi a moment to grieve in peace, knowing that it was because of our families that her mother was dead. A part of me felt extremely guilty, while the reasonable part was trying to convince me that I wasn’t even born yet to bear the burden of this, but I knew that if it wasn’t for this damn curse placed on my family, her mother would probably be alive today.

My own eyes were covered in a blanket of tears, seeing Lexi in such a distraught state that I found myself having to look away from her, as my heart couldn’t bear to see her like this. But as I tried to free myself from her pain by looking away, my eyes landed on my half-brother Liam, who looked to be just as distraught over this matter.

Just like myself, he looked as if he felt like he needed to take accountability for what happened in the past, but my reasonable side had finally convinced me that we weren’t to blame, as there was nothing that either of us could have done to save her. But as for Lexi’s wellbeing, that was something that my brother and I could control, and the two of us definitely needed to make sure that she was taken care of now, since our grandfather was no longer there with us.

Turning his head away from her, Liam glared at the man that now claimed to be his father, before he broke the silence in the room, by demanding, “You need to tell us everything that happened the last time you fought this damn curse, so that we don’t make the same mistakes.”

Liam then looks away from Ethan, and his eyes turn sympathetic as they set on Lexi, before he adds, “Costing us precious lives that matter.”

I watched as Ethan’s head turned to look at Evan, and the two just stared at each other for what felt like forever, as if they were having a private dispute. What felt like minutes later,

Evan finally turns back to look at Liam and says, “I will tell you what I remember of that night, but I have to admit, most of it has remained a blur all these years. Honestly, I don’t remember anything from the time it took over my body until they were able to detach it from my wolf.”

Immediately, I knew what he was talking about, as I too had lost myself to the darkness. I remember the emptiness that it made me feel, as it slowly consumed my being, while it began to make me feel like I was no longer in charge of my actions.

Honestly, if it wasn’t for Liam and Chase, I don’t know if I would have been able to stop it before it took complete control, but they showed up right before the darkness was able to block me from my own existence. Thankfully, I don’t think that this is something that I have to worry about anymore, as I was sure that the darkness would no longer see me as a future host, now that I have unlocked the power of the light that had been buried deep inside of me.
