Chapter 240-2
But unfortunately, not everyone was as lucky as I was, and as Evan closed his eyes for a second and took a deep breath, before opening them back up, I knew that his recollection of
his experience was going to be far worse than my own.
“Carla and I were together the night that the previous Alpha Rogue King attacked our territory. A part of me wanted to take her and run as fast as I could, getting her the hell out of harm’s way, but I couldn’t just leave my family and pack behind like that. I was the firstborn son, and I had taken an oath to serve and protect them at all costs, but never did I imagine what it would truly cost me.” Ethan said, while his head turned to look at Liam, now knowing all these years later what it had truly cost him.
For a second, I could have sworn he looked as if he was going to get choked up, but then he turns away from Liam and clears his throat, before he continues to say, “But that is what an Alpha is supposed to do, and that is exactly what I did. I took Carla to the ranch, leaving her in my mother’s care, before I headed out with our fathers to meet the Alpha Rogue King head on. It wasn’t until we made it almost to the cemetery, did I realize exactly what we were up against.”
“What exactly was it?” Cash asked, now on the edge of his seat, listening to his uncle’s
encounters of that night.
Shaking his head, he looked once again at his brother Evan, turning his back to face us all, before answering Cash’s question. “It was exactly like what we had just dealt with last night, but ten times worse, as the darkness had completely encompassed the rogue army, not allowing us to penetrate. My fathers were the first to charge at the Alpha Rogue King, but even with the two of them attacking in unison, they couldn’t make it past the dark mist that surrounded the Alpha Rogue King’s army.”
“Then how did you stop them if our grandfathers couldn’t even penetrate the darkness?” Chase now asked, questioning what we were all wondering, as it may be the key to taking Jacob down for good.
Evan’s eyes at that moment turned to look at Lexi, and I knew this was where her mother’s story started. “Your mother road in on Carla’s father’s wolf’s back like a warrior princess, with guns a blazing. Her power hit the darkness with every ounce of power she had inside of her petite body. If I am being honest with you, your mother was badass.”
A chuckle came from Lexi’s lips, but she barely got it fully out before she was back to fighting off her tears. I on the other hand, had a soft smile on my face, as I knew now where Lexi gets her fearlessness from, and I was happy to see that Evan had given Lexi that small memory of her, so that Lexi, too, knew that she was just like her mother.

But as Lexi continued to sniffle back her tears, I reached over and grabbed her hand, taking it into my own, before giving it a squeeze, letting her know that I was there for her, as Evan continued to explain what happened that night.
As his eyes remained on Lexi, he continued to say, “Your mother was so powerful that she alone was able to keep the darkness from spreading towards our pack, but unfortunately, she wasn’t strong enough to make it retreat. Seeing this, I watched as her power hit the dark mist, making the smallest of a dent with each blast to keep it at bay. As she continued to blast it with everything that she had, I saw the smallest of a crack forming in its barrier.”
Evan then paused as his eyes then turned to look at me, before he then said, “That’s when your grandfather and I took our opportunity and rushed towards it in the hopes of breaking through.”
Evan then began to shake his head, looking away from us, taking a second, before he then said, “It was the worst mistake I ever made, because now I know what it had cost me. After that point, I don’t remember much, other than waking up a month later with Carla gone, and half our senior class dead. If you want to know what happened between point A and point B, then Evan here will have to tell you the rest.”
All our eyes at that moment turned to look at Evan, waiting for him to take over, as we were all now invested in what had happened all those years ago.

Chapter 241-1
Raven’s POV
“Where were you at when our uncle went charging in with Raven’s grandfather?” Chase sarcastically asks his father, like he knows something that we don’t, making me wonder if my grandfather had already told him about that night.
All eyes in the room were definitely now on Evan, not just waiting for him to tell us what his encounter of the events were, but to explain to us where he was when all of this was going down. Come to think of it, Ethan didn’t mention Evan’s name in his story whatsoever, leading me to believe that he couldn’t have been there, at least when it had all started.
