Chapter 46-1
Raven’s POV
Was this probably the stupidest thing I ever did? Yes, but I needed answers, and no one in this town was willing to give them to me. Something was telling me whatever happened before my mother left here all those years ago, was happening again. Now, knowing that Ethan wasn’t the only one of my mother’s friends that had passed, I felt even more compelled to find out the truth, as I was now even more worried, not just for my own safety, but for all those around me.
As I stood at the gates of the cemetery, I couldn’t dismiss the two large wolves that were cut into the metal of the gates, making me think back to what Chance had told me about them being the protectors of this town. Unfortunately, right now, I was seeing them more as the problem, as it was one of them that had killed Josie, but I couldn’t dismiss the one that had
come to my rescue.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed the gates open and stepped inside the cemetery to find myself greeted by a cool gust of wind, sending a chill down my spine, making me question if I should turn around, and head back to town. But I had come this far, and I’d be damned if I
was turning back now, before I found out what secrets this place held within its gates.
Following a cobblestone path that led into the cemetery, I walked towards the first set of headstones, taking in their recent date of deaths, realizing this was the newest part of the cemetery, and where I thankfully needed to be. Stepping off the path, I focused on the date of death on each headstone, knowing that I needed to go back a good twenty years, leading me deeper into the cemetery.
I was becoming hopeless as time began to pass by, as I must have looked at a hundred headstones, wondering how it was possible for there to be so many graves. But then I realized that Beaumont was the hub of all the surrounding mountains that bordered the town, and that this must be the only cemetery in the area.
Feeling like I was never going to find the graves I was looking for, I was just about to throw the towel in, when a particular headstone caught my attention. Making my way to the headstone with the surname Carter engraved on it, which was Mazie’s last name, I quickly noticed the date of death that appeared on it, being around the timeframe I was looking for.
The grave belonged to an eighteen-year-old girl named Zara, and under her name, was written, beloved daughter, and sister, making me wonder if she could possibly be Mazie’s relative. My eyes then moved to the headstone beside Zara’s to see another one with the same date of death, and then to the next one that was dated two days later.

The headstones continued with the date of deaths all being within the same week as each other, with a dozen headstones in total, all being of the rightful age of eighteen, leading me to believe that something tragic had definitely happened. My question now was, why wasn’t there an article in the local newspaper about it, and why were the elders of the town so hushed about it?
Taking my phone out of my pocket, I began to put each of the names of the deceased in my phone notes, wanting to remember them so that I could look their names up on the internet when I got home. There was no way that the town could have hidden every single one of their deaths, and I was determined to find one of their obituaries on the web.
As I typed the final name into my phone, I heard movement within the foliage behind me, making me turn slowly in the direction that I heard it coming from. My heart began to instantly beat heavily in my chest, even when I turned to see nothing directly behind me.
My eyes then began to scan the area, as I prayed to God that what I had heard had just come from a squirl or a chipmunk, but that prayer was left unanswered, as two large glowing golden eyes appeared within the shadows of a cluster of nearby trees and shrubbery. I took a few steps back, stumbling right into a headstone, almost losing my balance, as I dropped my phone from my hand, while I caught myself before I fell.
