Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 9

Chapter9-1

Raven’s POV

I watched as Cash licked his lips, and my heart began to race, knowing that this was a sign that he was

about to kiss me, but I couldn’t lead him on, even with butterflies dancing in my stomach with the thought of his lips pressed against my own. It was clear that he wanted me to stay here because of what he had just said, but I couldn’t allow myself to get involved with someone that would hold me back from pursuing my dreams.

As Cash leaned down, I pulled my hands from his, taking a step back from him, as I say to him, I’m sorry. I

can’t do this.

A part of me waited for him to say something, anything to make me feel better about denying him, but he said nothing to me. Instead, he just stood there staring at me like he was in shock, as his eyes filled with what looked like sadness, making me question if I had made a mistake, denying whatever this was

between us.

Not able to take another second of his puppy dog eyes staring at me like that, I finally said to him, Cash, I like you, I really do. It’s just that it’s not fair to you for us to get involved, when I plan on leaving once

school is over.

I see.He says in a soft tone, just above a whisper, as he drops his head in defeat.

Jesus, I barely knew him and here he was acting like I had just broken up with him, making my stomach turn into knots, as if me denying him was affecting me too. If I wasn’t outside already, I would have excused myself, to get some fresh air, but the fresh air around me wasn’t doing a damn thing to make me feel better about what I had just done to him.

I need to get back to Mazie.I said, as I turned now on my heels, just wanting to get away from this awkward moment I caused between us, because I didn’t know what else to say to him or do to make.

whatever this was better.

Thankfully, Cash was nothing like Chase, and he let me go without a fight, making me yarn one last time to look at him just standing there in defeat, before turned and raced back towards the waterhole. As I stepped back into the opening where the waterhole was, I noticed a few people turning to look in my direction, making me wonder if they had seen me walk off with Cash, now seeing me return alone. Honestly, I didn’t care what they thought of me as I walked straight towards Mazie, who was still laying on

the blanket.

Taking my shoes oft, I plopped down beside her, as she let out a chuckle, saying, That was quick.

Yeah, umrn, he just wanted to apologize to me about his brother’s actions today at school.

Mazie turned to look at me, lowering her sunglasses, before she says, Doesn’t sound like that was all.”

Turning my head away from her gaze, I stared at the waterhole, not wanting to tell her about the odd

moment between Cash and I, because I didn’t want her to think less of me for turning him down. In my

heart I knew it was the right thing to do, as I didn’t want to hurt him, even though, by the look that was on his face when I had left him, I already did, but I knew it was better off now than later.

Want to talk about it?She now asks me, and I quickly shake my head as I move to stand back up, pulling

my coverup over my head.

No, I think I’m going to take a swim to cool off. Do you want to join me?

Mazie hesitated to answer me, making me think that she was content where she was, but as I moved to take a step she says, Wait up.As she got to her feet and slowly began to remove her coverup.
