Moonlight In Chains (Trinity and Asher) novel Chapter 198

BONUS CHAPTER 6

Dawn broke over Moonflare, painting the forest in pale gold and silver. Wolves padded quietly. through the clearing, ears twitching, senses alert even in the soft morning light. The attack from the previous night had been repelled, but the pack knew better than to relax completely. There would always be threats lurking at the edges of the forest, and Moonflare had learned to expect the unexpected.

Taryn and Justin were already moving through the perimeter, checking every boundary, every hidden approach. Their presence had become a reassurance, a shield of experience and skill. They didn’t just fight, they guided, taught, and reminded us that preparation could turn chaos into order.

Asher and I walked through the packhouse yard, observing our members as they resumed their morning routines. Some were tired, sore from last night’s skirmish, but no wolf carried the weight of fear. The unity forged through training, discipline, and the Moonbound bond had solidified the pack’s confidence.

Gage and Arlo lingered near the training grounds, still adjusting after the recent upheavals. Gage was pacing, restless energy in every movement, while Arlo moved slowly, trying to balance vigilance with fatherhood. Their growth over the past months was undeniable, but scars lingered. Habits, reactions, and impulses that Lydia had tried to exploit.

“We’re holding better than I expected.” I said, voice low, letting Asher hear my thought through the Moonbound bond. “Even with the new recruits, even with the chaos last night… Moonflare is standing strong.”

Asher smiled, hand resting lightly on mine. “It’s because we’re together. Every wolf, every guardian, every bond, it all counts. They’ve learned trust, and we’ve learned them.”

From the treeline, Taryn called out. “Scouts spotted movement. Two wolves, approaching cautiously from the north. Likely remnants from last night’s attack.”

I shifted instinctively, the familiar surge of energy coursing through me. Blue translucent fur shimmered in the morning light, eyes glowing faintly as the Moonbound bond flared through the pack. Asher mirrored me, amplifying the presence. Even the young recruits tensed, muscles coiling like springs, ready to respond.

The wolves approached slowly, hesitating at the edge of the clearing. Their dark energy was still present, faint but perceptible, less organized than last night, less coordinated, but they were testing the waters.

“Hold your positions.” I called through the bond. “We’re not giving them an inch. No openings.

Observe, react, and protect each other.”

Taryn moved beside me, her stance firm, alert. Justin flanked Asher, eyes scanning every shadow, every movement. “They’ll try to find weak points.” Taryn murmured. “But Moonflare has none. Not today.”

The first wolf lunged forward, claws extended, energy flaring like a black flame. I met it with a pulse of Moonbound power, energy radiating outward, a living shield that hit the attacker squarely. The wolf recoiled, hissing, stunned by the unexpected strength.

Behind us, guardians flanked the sides, massive forms moving with precise coordination. Young wolves surged forward, using instincts honed in training to intercept the attackers before they could regroup. Even Gage and Arlo leapt into action, guiding the pack with authority and skill, their previous recklessness tempered by experience.

“Push them back! Don’t let them regroup!” I barked through the bond, energy rippling across the clearing. The Moonbound connection reinforced every movement, every strike, amplifying reflexes and awareness.

The attackers came again, faster this time, but they were uncoordinated, their strategy faltering in the face of Moonflare’s unity. Taryn intercepted a male wolf attempting to flank the guardians, teeth sinking into his shoulder to force retreat. Justin corralled another, using speed and precision to cut off escape routes.
