Mr. CEO Your Wife Has Wanted a Divorce for a Long Time novel Chapter 683

Chapter 683

She said it the way people do when they actually mean it, no nervous laugh, no false modesty, just easy and ground Like she was comfortable enough in her own skin that a compliment didn’t need to land anywhere in particular.

Dr. Mercer smiled and nodded, studying her for a moment before asking, in a conversational tone, what she was

working on these days.

Julia paused briefly. “Franklin handed Wilson Tech over to me last year to get some hands-on experience. Though honestly, I haven’t exactly produced anything worth writing home about yet.”

The word “honestly” was genuine. She wasn’t performing humility. She was just stating the situation plainly, witho dressing it up or apologizing for it.

Dr. Mercer waved a hand. “Research doesn’t work on a timeline you can force. Laying the groundwork takes time. N having results yet is completely normal.”

After that, the conversation kept going, circling back through different corners of the AI space. More people drifted i as the night wore on, adding their own threads to the discussion, and the whole thing took on a kind of easy energy that felt less like a formal event and more like a group of people who actually enjoyed talking to each other.

A few of them had heard Julia’s name before but didn’t really know much about her. By the end of the conversation, that had clearly changed. One of them shook his head with a short, genuine laugh. “I had no idea Ms. Brown had this kind of depth across so many different areas of AI. That’s genuinely impressive.”

Julia smiled. “You’re too kind.”

She’d said some version of that line more than once tonight. It never sounded like a deflection.

Logan and Janice were standing nearby, close enough to catch the drift of things without being part of the circle. When they heard the compliment, both of them smiled. They didn’t make a move to insert themselves. But the quiet satisfaction on their faces was hard to miss.

The truth was, they’d had an agenda here for a while. They both wanted Julia to have the chance to work under Dr. Mercer, and they’d wanted it badly enough that they’d brought it up with Franklin a few days ago, plainly and seriously. Franklin had agreed.
