Maggie prepared to reply when Dr. Mercer rushed over with his assistant after hearing about the incident
Learning that Maggie was the one who ran into trouble, he asked anxiously. “Is everything fine? Did you hurt yourself?”
Leaning against Johnny for support due to her sprained ankle, Maggie steadied herself after seeing this group of people crowd around her.
She put on a gentle smile to calm everyone’s nerves. “I’m okay, really.”
After that, she nodded toward Jimmy, Glen, and Harry one–by–one to show her gratitude for their concern.
Dr. Mercer failed to pick up on how intensely these men cared about Maggie beyond regular friendship. He breathed out a deep sigh of relief once he knew Maggie wasn’t hurt physically.
“Sorry, this whole mess falls on my watch,” Dr. Mercer said guiltily. “Your dress is soaked through. Let me arrange for someone to take you upstairs so you can change into a fresh outfit.”
Maggie nodded politely. “That sounds good, thank you so much for your help.”
Johnny followed closely behind her without hesitation. “I’m going with you.”
Johnny held Maggie steady and guided her to head upstairs together.
Harry, Jimmy, and Glen stood where they were, watching their backs as they walked away.
Julia and Franklin also kept their eyes fixed on them heading for the upper–level area.
Rex stepped forward, intending to start a talk with him, yet an older man from the Hall family’s long–time family friends approached Jimmy first and pulled him into a conversation.
