Chapter 17
The next day, Alexander left Northern Metropolis.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
Everything was back on track.
I was busy joining the group to take over the business while preparing for the wedding.
I also had to make time to date Oliver.
Two weeks later, Jonathan came to my office.
He looked around, leaning casually against the desk with a smile:
“Mr. Bennett, you’re doing quite a decent job.”
I raised an eyebrow:
“Of course. You’d better work hard, or the family fortune will be all
mine.
The War of Succession has always been like this.”
Jonathan laughed out loud.
After a while, he added:
“Alexander has moved his company’s operations to Northern

Metropolis.”
My typing hands paused.
“Let him.”
Seeing that I was emotionally stable, Jonathan left, reassured.
The next evening, Jonathan sent me the address of a club we often frequented.
When I arrived, besides Jonathan, the place was full of our friends.
“What’s the occasion?”
I sat down with a smile.
Jonathan looked at me with a lazy smirk:
“Don’t rush, there’s one more person.”
As soon as he spoke, a waiter led someone in.
It was Efrain.
She was wearing a white dress, her eyes filled with surprise at seeing so many people.
A friend smilingly brought her inside.
I sat in the corner, and with the dim lighting in the private room, she
didn’t notice me.

understood.
This was Jonathan and our friends venting my anger for me.
Efrain gradually sensed something was wrong and made excuses to leave.
Someone blocked the door:
“Ms. Wright, we went out of our way to host you since you came from afar. Leaving like this would be too disrespectful.”
Efrain smiled, though it looked worse than crying, saying she wasn’t feeling well and really couldn’t drink anymore.
But no one humored her.
She took out her phone to make a call.
Someone snatched the phone and asked with a laugh:
“Are you looking for your Alexander?”
Someone chimed in:
“No need to look for him. We’ve already contacted him for you, he’ll be here soon.”
Efrain’s eyes turned red:
“You’re bullying me like this. When Alexander gets here, he won’t let you get away with it.”

The crowd erupted in laughter.
“Alexander treats his adopted sister this well?”
Efrain shrank into a ball amidst the laughter.
Someone grabbed her, forcing liquor down her throat.
She cried and struggled, but couldn’t escape.
I watched from the corner, feeling no sympathy.
You only know how much a knife hurts when it’s stabbed into your own flesh.
Only after this revenge will we be even.
Alexander suddenly burst in, rescuing Efrain from the crowd.
Efrain hid behind him, sobbing as she complained.
