The girls howled.
One of them pulled out her phone and started filming my face.
I didn’t say a word. I just turned and left.
After drinks with my friends at a bar nearby, I stumbled outside–and ran straight into Jasper and Sienna leaving the restaurant.
Maybe it was the alcohol, but I walked face–first into a streetlight pole.
Hard.
Jasper glanced at me. Didn’t move.
He helped Sienna into the car, went into a convenience store, and came back with sour plums for her motion sickness.
As he walked past me, he said flatly, “Let’s go. You hurt yourself on purpose so I’d give you a ride, didn’t you?”
I stared at him for seconds. Finally got it.
“I didn’t. And I don’t need one.”
Jasper tried to pull me toward the car anyway. I yanked my arm back.
His patience snapped. He let go of me roughly.
Wren, enough.”
You said you wanted to break up. I tried to fix things and you threw it back in my face. What do you want from me?”
‘I’m stressed, so I go out with a friend, and you follow me here? You’re suffocating me. When is this going to stop?”
almost laughed at how self–righteous he looked.
Before I could say anything, Sienna walked over.
Jasper, why are you being so mean to Wren?”
ler soft voice instantly melted his anger.
Wren, please don’t get the wrong idea! I wasn’t feeling well today, so Jasper was sweet enough to take me out. That’s all it was, I
>romise!”
Jasper and I have this rule when we hang out–he can’t talk to anyone else, not even his girlfriend. That’s why he didn’t say hi. I’m so
orry!”
Jasper, you’re always so sweet and gentle with me. Why can’t you be like that with Wren? Bad boy.”

Mr. Fake Mute’s Love Game Ended When I Stopped Playing the Fool
Chapter 4
She tapped his cheek playfully.
I watched as Jasper–Mr. Ice–Cold–in–Court–turned red from his neck to his ears.
I looked away.
My rideshare pulled up. I got in without another word.
That night, I realized something.
The portfolio I’d submitted to Hale & Morrison–the one they said they’d email back within three days–never came.
I called the firm. But they claimed I never brought any materials.
My stomach dropped.
I knew exactly what he’d done.
And sure enough, the next day, Jasper attended a high–profile legal conference with Sienna and announced her hire at Hale &
Morrison on social media.
Every single item on Sienna’s résumé was identical to mine.
Word for word.
Jasper had stolen fifteen years of my work and handed it to Sienna.
They were elite lawyers now.
People would believe Sienna, not me.
What Jasper did was trap me with no way out.
I couldn’t believe this was the man I’d loved for fifteen years.
That night, I packed up and moved back in with my parents.
I knew it, it was the day of Sienna’s first court appearance.
case had drawn massive attention–not because of Sienna, but because Jasper Reid had agreed to be her second chair just to help
er win her debut.
And her opposing counsel? Jasper’s biggest rival.
The only lawyer who could go toe–to–toe with him.
Callum Ashford.
