Chapter 3
Over the next few days, Kieran took Tina to the Maldives.
Like a honeymoon.
Their social media? Nonstop couple shots. Blue skies. White sand. Perfect smiles.
I knew what this was.
lina’s way of twisting the knife. Kieran’s way of letting her.
He was trying to break me. Make me jealous. Make me crawl back–just like I always had before.
His secretary even delivered a message:
‘Evelyn, Mr. Reid said if you apologize and come back–stop causing drama–the Chief Designer position at Virex is still yours. And so is your place as his wife.”
But dead hearts don’t care about titles.
So I ignored it. Went back to the villa instead. Started packing.
Photos everywhere. All of us. Matching clothes we designed together. Matching mugs. Matching slippers. The video from our first investor pitch. Business plans we’d drafted side by side.
[ burned it all.
And that’s when I realized-
in seven years, almost nothing here was just mine.
He’d never even given me a real gift. Not once.
shook my head. Let out a bitter laugh.
My phone buzzed.
Cina
sistant. Which meant she was handling my handover.
you don’t want any mistakes during the transition. Wouldn’t want Virex’s core data leaking, right?”
tomach dropped.
I’d built most of Virex’s core tech infrastructure myself.
If something went wrong during my exit, I’d be the one blamed.

And Tina knew it.
She’d found my weak spot.
I didn’t love Kieran anymore. But the work? The company I’d bled for?
I still cared about that.
So I clicked the link she sent. Started filling out the handover forms.
The next day, Kieran came storming back.
Cut his vacation short. Brought the entire executive team with him.
Charged straight toward me.
I looked up.
Everyone was glaring.
Kieran shoved his way to the front, eyes bloodshot, and slapped me across the face.
“Evelyn Smith! I underestimated you. Leaving wasn’t enough–you had to destroy Virex too?!”
I turned to Tina.
Tears streaked down her cheeks. She was hiding behind Kieran.
But for a split second, her lips curled into a vicious smile.
‘Kieran, please don’t blame Evelyn! She just loves you so much–she thought stealing Virex’s core files would get your attention.”
Kieran’s rage exploded.
He grabbed my throat. Squeezed. Hard.
couldn’t breathe.
Evelyn! You vicious bitch!”
Seven years. I never thought you’d stoop this low. You sold our tech to the competition. Tried to destroy me!”
You heartless snake.”
His eyes burned with hatred.
ike I was his enemy.
No trace of the man who once loved me.
It wasn’t me—it was Tina-“
Chapter 3
My voice came out weak. Broken.
Kieran shoved me.
My head slammed into the edge of the desk.
Blood poured down my face.
The coworkers around me grabbed scissors. Staplers. Threw them.
Evelyn! How dare you show your face here, you backstabbing traitor!”
I knew she was trash from day one–get the hell out of Virex!”
The objects hit my wounds. Blood gushed faster.
I tried to explain.
No one listened.
Kieran watched. For a second, something flickered in his eyes.
Regret? Pain?
Then it was gone.
He turned to his security team.
Take this traitor back to the villa. Lock her in. She doesn’t leave until I say so.”
‘I want to know exactly who else she sold Virex’s tech to.”
