Chapter 7
The second I finish speaking, the entire area goes silent.
Harrison’s face darkens, his hand shaking on his cane, but he can’t find words to make me stay.
Dominic’s expression freezes completely.
‘Avery. Don’t push it.” He finally snaps, his voice tight with rage.
I already apologize. What the hell more do you want?!”
I glance at him, voice still calm.
You don’t apologize–you’re just scared of prison.”
I’m rejecting you because I finally see who you really are.”
Like I said—after today, you and I? The Ashfords and I? We’re DONE.”
Dominic opens his mouth to argue-
}ut Harrison smacks him in the shin with his cane.
Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough?!”
Harrison forces himself to stay composed and turns to me, practically bowing.
Ms. Sindair… if you still consider marrying him, I can put half our assets in your account
Just say yes, keep the wedding on, and everything we have is yours.”
The crowd gasps.
don’t even flinch, just ask coolly.
Mr. Ashford, are you seriously trying to bribe an NSA employee right now?”
This isn’t bribery.” He’s still trying.
Once you’re married, those assets are legally yours. Completely legitimate.”
actually laugh
No thanks, not interested. Dominic’s charges aren’t going away either.”
Harrison’s hand shakes, his face goes white, but he gears up to try again.
Dominic suddenly steps forward, his face twisted, his voice rough
“Avery, You know thar?
“On the day we got engaged, my mother took your ID
We’re already legally married! By American law, you’re ALREADY my wifer
The crowd goes nuts.
Harrison’s face goes ghost white and he yells. “SHUT UP!”
