Chapter 140 Where Did You Learn That From?
“Curtis, do you want a boy or a girl?” Adriana asked softly.
Finished
“I like both. Boy or girl, I don’t care, as long as our baby comes into the world safely.” Curtis reached over and ruffled Adriana’s hair again.
Adriana eyed Curtis with suspicion. That gesture really felt familiar.
“When I was a kid, I met an older boy with a Labrador. He would always ruffle the Labrador’s head and then mine.” Adriana glanced at Curtis and spoke softly.
Back then, she couldn’t see, so she never knew what he looked like.
But she knew that Labrador would always be beside her, tongue hanging out, waiting for a head rub just like her.
Getting her head rubbed had become a kind of comfort for Adriana.
I am probably just like a stray puppy. I just want a shelter, a place to belong.
Curtis’s fingers froze for a second, and he spoke quietly. “I didn’t ruffle the Labrador’s head and then yours … I always ruffled your head first, then patted the Labrador.”
Adriana was eating noodles, and hearing Curtis mutter under his breath, she didn’t quite catch it, so she looked at him curiously. “What did you say?”
Curtis smiled and changed the subject. “Do you want to get a puppy?”
He hoped Adriana could have a pet at home for company.
“Can I?” Adriana’s eyes lit up.
She’d once found a stray dog and secretly brought it home, but Matthew found out and got really mad.
He had a thing about animals being dirty and wouldn’t let her keep it, so she ended up giving the dog away.
“Why not? This is your home.” Curtis rested his chin on his hand, watching Adriana.
Adriana’s heart sped up. “But … since I’m pregnant, aren’t you worried a pet might be unsafe?”
“No. As long as you get a puppy from a reputable breeder, have it checked at the animal hospital, and bring it home after a bath, it’s totally safe.” Curtis assured her.

“Then … can it be a Labrador?” Adriana had always liked Labradors, probably because of that childhood memory.
Back then, she couldn’t see, and when she cried, the Labrador would come and comfort her.
The housekeeper told her the Labrador was a therapy dog, meant to comfort people’s pain.
“Sure.” Curtis nodded, agreeing.
Adriana was thrilled and gave Curtis a kiss on the cheek.
Sucking up to your sugar daddy always gets you more rewards–a classic Bonnie quote.
Curtis froze for a second, then looked at Adriana resignedly. “Where did you learn that from?
And then there was that whole “call me daddy” thing….
Bzzz. Just then, Curtis’s phone vibrated.
“Curtis, my mom is coughing up blood!” It was Belinda crying on the phone, saying Cynthia was coughing up blood.
Adriana froze for a moment. Cynthia really would do anything to make Curtis come over.
“Call the doctor.” Curtis frowned, then hung up.

“Curtis … you should check on her.” Adriana lowered her head. She knew Cynthia was doing it on purpose, but she couldn’t stop him from going.
She knew very well that once Cynthia called Curtis over, there was no way she’d let him leave that night.
“Finish your food first. After you eat, you can come with me to the hospital.” Curtis didn’t seem in any rush, gesturing for Adriana to keep eating.
Adriana was surprised. “I’m going too?”
Curtis really didn’t seem anxious at all.
Maybe he really doesn’t love Cynthia after all.
So, seeing isn’t always believing, and hearing doesn’t always mean it’s true… Everyone said Curtis truly loved Cynthia, that he gave up his fortune for her, even making up detailed stories about it. Maybe none of
it was ever true.
You really can’t judge a person by what you see or hear.
