Chapter 149 That’s Very Noble of Him, Isn’t It?
Mary’s eyes went red with frustration, and he immediately reached for the box of condoms frene had stashed by the bed
Irene piled his hand back and tossed the condoms away.
Cary paused in confusion. “What’s that supposed to mean?
“Tve decided we’ll go for one last try for a baby, even though I’m not exactly young anymore. Let’s see if I get lucky. Irene grinned, looping her arms around Gary’s neck for another kiss. “But I’m not sure if I’m even fertile. If I can’t conceive naturally, don’t even think about getting me to do in vitro fertilization. It’s never going to happen…”
Gary was frozen for ages. Once he processed what she meant, he wanted nothing more than to devour her.
Irene loved teasing him like this. If Gary had a tail, it would be wagging to the sky right now.
She loved that Gary was loyal, possessive, and followed her lead…
Most importantly, he only had eyes for her.
Irene did care about Gary–she’d just been too wrapped up in her own pain for so many years to ever give his love the response it deserved.
But she saw everything Gary did for her. She really did.
Barton Estate in Harborton.
Jeremy’s butler brought him his medicine, only leaving after seeing him take it.
As soon
s the butler left, Jeremy spat the pills out, his expression dark as he called Curtis. “Curtis, are you sure that test result is accurate?”
“Jeremy, if you trust me, you need to be careful of everyone around you. Don’t give anything away, and don’t let anyone know that Nicole is an impostor, at least for now, Curtis warned.
“I understand.” Jeremy hung up and immediately called one of his scholarship students, Justin Hotchner. Justin, I’m back in Harborton. I need someone I can trust at my side.”
“Yes, Mr. Barton, I’ll be there to help you tomorrow.”
The homecoming party was packed with all of Haldoria’s big shots. Since Curtis was in town, he was naturally invited as a guest of honor. The moment he appeared, all the heirs and heiresses present tried everything to get close to him.
Adriana wore a champagne dress, her makeup making her look mature in a fresh, stunning way.
Linking arms with Curtis, she immediately drew everyone’s attention as they entered.
Curtis never brought a date to public events. At the last Haldoria charity gala, he’d brought Adriana, but they

she mu be the heiress of the Bartons. I heard Curtis is engaged to the Barton heiress”
A group of socialites gossiped, trying to guess Adriana’s identity
They were convinced Adriana had to be from a prominent family–everyone in their world married within. their own class. If a rich heir married a nobody, it would be the joke of the town
Mr. Emcoln, is this Nicole Barton, the Barton heiress? Someone finally worked up the nerve to ask Curtis directly
Everyone wanted for Curtis’s answer.
“This is my wife, Adriana, Curtis’s voice was steady.
Everyone was shocked–Curtis was married? And not to the Barton heiress?
“Which family is Mrs. Lincoln from?” someone pressed,
Adriana nervously lowered her head. She was an orphan. She wasn’t ashamed of her identity, but she was afraid she’d embarrass Curtis.
Curtis’s face darkened, but before he could answer, Natasha’s voice cut in.
“Mrs. Lincoln is an orphan. Mr. Lincoln married regardless of her background or the rumors–how noble,” Natasha said, grinning wickedly as she walked over with Matthew.
Everyone started whispering. How could someone like Curtis marry an orphan?
“Oh, I’m not nearly as noble as Mr. Langford. Ms. Jones, despite all the scandals about you in Moweland, he’s still determined to marry you. That’s very noble of him, isn’t it? Curtis arched an eyebrow.
He’d managed to shift the attention expertly, and Matthew’s face turned dark.
“Curtis!” Natasha snapped.
