Nina was getting a bit frantic.
She didn’t poke Chloe’s eyes. Instead, she puckered her lips and started kissing Chloe again.

“Nina kiss. Auntie Chloe move,” she explained, showing how she thought she’d woken Chloe up before.
As she planted more kisses, this time, Chloe’s eyes slowly began to open.
Seeing Chloe awake, Nina froze for a full two seconds.
Then, she cried out joyfully to William, “Grandpa! I am so good!”
She thought she was the best baby ever!
Her kisses had woken Chloe up!
Overjoyed, Nina wrapped her arms around William’s leg, her little voice buzzing with excitement.
William was also taken aback that Nina’d kissed Chloe awake.
He paused in surprise, then immediately hit the call button.
While waiting for the doctor, he took Chloe’s hand. “Chibe, you’re awake. The doctors said you might not wake up so soon.”
He held her hand, speaking softly, “The doctor is on the way to check you over. I’ll call your brothers right
now.”
As William talked to Chloe, Nina, still clinging to his leg was eager to join in.
She urgently introduced herself. “Me Nina! Auntie Chlo, Nina kiss. Nina good!”
Nina wanted to chat more, but the medical team hurried in.
Jasper squeezed in right behind them, trying to shove past the doctors to get closer to Chloe.
His behavior made one of the doctors snap, “What are you doing? Stop crowding!”
Seeing him charge in like that, Nina, who already disliked him, didn’t hesitate. She spread her chubby little arms wide to block him.
“Go ‘way! No see my Auntie Chloe! Mine! Nina’s!” She emphasized Chloe’s ownership twice, very seriously.
Jasper paid her no mind and almost knocked her over.
Luckily, William was right there.
He caught Nina with one hand, the other grabbing Jaspe by the collar and hauling him out.
“Leave,” William said, changing the “Fuck off” on the tip of his tongue to something slightly more civil.
His word might have been polite, but his icy glare sent clear warning-like saying, “Make yourself scarce, or you’re finished.”

William understood. He sat down, gently stroking her buised cheek. “She can go home once she’s feeling more steady, my dear.”
Nina blinked, not fully understanding.
Since William didn’t give a definite time, she couldn’t figure out when Chloe would leave.
They didn’t have to wait long before Benjamin, Amelia, and Daniel arrived.
Daniel, who had fled not long ago, looked incredibly guilty as he returned.
While he was wallowing in guilt, Nina was thrilled to see him.
“Un-coo Dan’el!” She stretched out her arms, asking to be held.
Daniel, seeing her enthusiasm, moved to pick her up. But a second later, Nina spotted Benjamin and Amelia.
“Mommy!” She instantly abandoned Daniel and ran straight for Amelia.
Amelia took her and immediately noticed the bruise on her right cheek. “Nina, what happened to your face?”
“I fall,” Nina said, ready to launch into her story.
But Daniel, his head hanging low, stepped forward to apologize first. “Amelia, I’m so sorry. I didn’t watch her closely enough. She jumped off the hospital bed. I just turned to close the door, and in that split second, she
