Matthew froze in place. His Adam’s apple bobbed slightly, and for a moment, there was a flicker of guilt in
his eyes.
But Adriana found that flicker of pity disgusting.
“When Rufus beat me until I was hospitalized and tried to rape me, did he ever stop to think about showing mercy? Matthew, you’re just as disgusting as the ones who hurt me. From beginning to end, you, your sister, Rufus, and Camelia … You’re all the same. You’re bullies. Adriana walked right up to him, her gaze steady and unyielding. “But people like you don’t stay on top forever.”
“Adriana!” Matthew panicked when she turned to leave.
He didn’t know why, but suddenly, he was afraid.
“Adriana, just let me explain.” He grabbed her wrist. “I didn’t mean it like that. I was just-”
Before he could finish, Natasha walked over.
Her eyes landed on Matthew’s hand gripping Adriana’s wrist. Her expression darkened as she glared at Adriana. “Ms. Xander, you can refuse to settle privately. That’s your right, but stop clinging to my boyfriend.”
Matthew let out a frustrated sigh and rubbed his brow before eventually releasing Adriana’s wrist.
“Ms. Jones, instead of wasting time being jealous, maybe reflect on yourself. You married someone else for your family’s benefit, and now that you’ve been dumped, you’re crawling back looking for a replacement … Adriana said, turning to glance at Matthew. “Maybe when I was young and stupid, I had a thing for junk food. But I’ve grown up now. I’m not into trash anymore.”
Natasha’s face flushed with rage. Humiliated, she raised her hand, ready to slap Adriana.
“Ms. Xander, Mr. Lincoln sent me to pick you up,” a cold voice cut in. It was Kenneth Heath, Curtis’s assistant. He stepped in and stood protectively in front of Adriana.
Adriana looked at Natasha, who was furious and shocked but didn’t dare to cross Kenneth. She laughed.
So, this was what it felt like to have real power behind you.
“Turns out you’d be scared of someone too, Ms. Jones. Ihought someone like you always acted like you were above the law,” Adriana said with a mocking smile.
Natasha clenched her fists in anger and looked at Matthew. “Matthew, did you hear what she just said—”
Matthew rubbed his temples and said in a low voice, “Adriana, come here.”
He wanted her to obey. “Curtis might help you for now, but he won’t be there for you forever. He’s only helping you because he temporarily sees some value in you. You understand that, right?”
That was the way businessmen thought. Everything can down to value.
Matthew believed Curtis was no exception. If there were no benefits for him to gain, he wouldn’t have involved himself.
Adriana looked at Matthew straight in the eye. “I know he won’t be there for me forever.”

She knew better than to believe someone could protect her for a lifetime. That was exactly why she had to use the time Curtis was helping her to build a version of herself that could protect her for life.
Kenneth drove Adriana to Curtis’s villa in Haldoria–Clarke Residence.
The one who opened the door and welcomed her in was the same gentle Eva from before.
“Ms. Xander, we meet again,” Eva said with a warm smile handing her a glass of warm water.
“Thank you,” Adriana replied with a small smile.
“Ms. Xander, Mr. Lincoln rarely returns to Haldoria. He said you could stay here until you leave for your studies abroad,” Kenneth said politely. Then, he took out a folder and handed it to her. “This is the prenuptial agreement. Please take a look.”
Adriana took it and skimmed through. Curtis had offered generous terms. Aside from the requirement that she give birth to a child for the Lincoln family during their marriage, there weren’t any particularly strict conditions.
Nothing beyond spending more time with Harold and doing regular video calls with him while overseas.
It was obvious that Curtis really cared about Harold.
“Mr. Lincoln lost his parents at a young age. It was Mr. Harold who raised him, so he means a great deal to him,” Kenneth explained.
Adriana nodded.
“And this marriage will be kept private. Aside from Mr. Harold, there’s no need for anyone else to know,” Kenneth added.
Even the way Kenneth said it was strictly businesslike. Everyone here knew this was a partnership, so there was no need to get sentimental about it.
Adriana nodded again.
Seeing how cooperative and quiet she was, Kenneth found himself growing more impressed with her. His tone even softened a bit. “Ms. Xander, do you have any additional terms you’d like to include? If you do, just let me know. I’ll inform Mr. Lincoln and we can add them to the agreement. For example, housing, cars,
money…
He was subtly trying to remind her that she could ask for more. Curtis could more than afford it.
Adriana glanced over the agreement again. Honestly, Curtis was already offering a lot.
