Ms. Escape Marrying to Run Fighting to Rise novel Chapter 297

Chapter 297 Cried Their Hearts Out

“Bug good,” Nina said.

The bugs didn’t bite Nina, only Noah.

Noah couldn’t understand why.

He didn’t dare touch the bugs anymore, only squatting on the ground to watch.

They were hiding behind a tree. Being so small, they weren’t easily spotted at first.

The guests attending the funeral feast didn’t notice them.

Finished

The guests were also from the village. Having finished their meal, they walked out slowly, chatting.

“Gabriel’s grandson seems like a filial boy. Keeps asking for his grandpa.”

“It’s sad. The child doesn’t understand anything. He doesn’t know his grandpa isn’t just asleep… he’s gone.”

“Once you’re gone, you’re gone. What a shame about Gabriel.”

“That little grandson of his… he’s probably going to keep asking.”

“Absolutely. It’s hard for the parents, too. How can they just tell a child, ‘Your grandpa is dead, you’ll never see him again’?”

“The poor kid would be heartbroken.”

The two adults went back and forth. And behind the tree, both children heard every word clearly.

Noah was completely stunned. “Nina, what ‘dead’? No see Grandpa?”

Nina knew a little about “death.”

She had almost been dropped to her death once.

She had also dreamed about death. But this was her first time facing the death of someone close.

Looking at Noah’s searching face, Nina hesitated, then told him honestly, “Grandpa gone. No see Grandpa.”

Finished

Noah’s world came crashing down.

He plopped onto the ground, wailing, “No! No Grandpa gone! Want Grandpa!”

Noah cried desperately. The two chatting villagers heard Noah’s crying and got startled.

When they got closer and realized it was Noah crying, their hearts sank.

Noah heard everything they said.

The two adults panicked.

They kneeled down, trying to soothe him gently. But before they could calm Noah, Nina, stirred by his crying, started sobbing, too.

The two little ones cried harder and harder.

The adults were completely out of their depth. “What do we do? What do we do?”

Finished

She had a grandpa, too.

She didn’t want her grandpa to go and didn’t want to not see him.

As Nina wailed, William held her, feeling like he might cry, too.

He said, “Don’t be scared, Nina. I get check-ups all the time now. I even exercise.

“Nina is still so little. I will take good care of myself and live until you grow up.”

William carried Nina aside to comfort her, not doing it in front of Noah.

That night, both children cried their hearts out.

Nina was scared by Gabriel’s death.

She clung to William all evening.

Nina wouldn’t even let the nanny take her for a bath.

Finally, William sat outside the bathroom door. Seeing William there, Nina reluctantly allowed the nanny to give her a bath.

After her bath, even before her hair was dry, she eagerly stretched out her little arms for William to hold.

William held her and began drying her hair.

While the two were settled in, Benjamin and Amelia, returning from their date, arrived home, and both reached for their phones.

“Nina didn’t call us?” Amelia said, finding it strange given the time. “She always looks for me at night. It’s past nine now. Is she still playing?”

Nina usually only forgot to look for Amelia when she was completely absorbed in play.

Benjamin didn’t know what was up with Nina either. He simply video-called William.
