Chapter 42 Standing Up

“With a daughter as foolish as you, your dad can’t be much better. I think he can look forward to being fired,” Curtis said flatly, then called Kenneth. “Bring the lawyer and call the police, too.”
Linda froze, not understanding what Curtis meant.
“Being this idiotic really takes skill,” Curtis said, shaking his phone. “Thanks to you, the evidence from the crime four years ago is perfectly intact.”
Curtis had Kenneth investigating the bullying Adriana suffered back four years ago, gathering proof. Unexpectedly, a fool sent it directly to him today.
Adriana just stared at Curtis, taking a long time to snap out of it.
“W–What do you mean?” Linda panicked, stepped back, and tried to leave, but Curtis‘ driver blocked her way.
Tom was huge–strong enough to take on ten people at once. He was Curtis‘ personal driver and bodyguard, after all.
“Adriana! Are you crazy? You know what happens if you mess with me!” Linda turned back to threaten Adriana. “You’d better tell him to mind his own business.”
Adriana stayed silent, her eyes shifting to Curtis.
“Don’t worry about this. I’ll handle it,” Curtis told Adriana. “Sit back down. Eat while it’s hot. Don’t let good food go to waste.”
Adriana lowered her head and ate. Maybe it was the steam from the dumplings, but her felt hot …
Her nose twinged. She wanted to cry, but was afraid Curtis would tease her.

The bullying from four years ago had always been Adriana’s nightmare, the biggest unresolved issue.
All these years, Matthew had never once stood up for her.
But Curtis, her contract husband and her boss, was actually willing to fight for her.
“Adriana, you’re done!” Linda and her crew tried to leave, but Tom and bodyguards blocked them.
Furious, Linda made a call. “Camelia, get over here with some people! That bitch Adriana brought a guy and they’ve got us surrounded!”

Adriana glanced nervously at Curtis. If Linda called Camelia, Camelia would definitely bring Mia.
Dealing with one Linda was easy–her family didn’t even compare to Curtis‘.
But if the Langfords got involved, who knew if it’d cause trouble for Curtis?
“What do you want to cat?” Curtis asked casually, like he didn’t care at all.
Adriana shook her head.
Adriana looked sweet, and when she was quiet, she looked even more well–behaved, making her an easy target for bullies.
Curtis looked at her, silent for a moment, then said, “It’s good if they all come. Saves me the trouble of tracking them down one by one.”
“Curtis, why are you helping me?” Adriana asked softly.
Logically, Curtis didn’t need to get involved in this at all.
“Wasn’t our marriage just finalized?” Curtis shot back, looking at her like she was being weird.
She was his wife. Wasn’t it normal to take care of this?
Adriana stayed quiet for a long time, then lowered her head. Her eyes were red again. “Thank you.”
She felt so touched. Curtis was a great boss.
He must treat everyone at Lincoln Group just as well.
Soon, Camelia arrived, bringing a few rich kids with her.
Rufus had already been caught, and these guys were his friends–the ones who bullied Adriana back then, too.
These privileged kids had no real ability, so they’d never been invited to big business events. They didn’t recognize Curtis.
And so did Camelia.
Someone of Curtis’s status in Harborton wasn’t widely known in Haldoria.
“Adriana, you’ve got some nerve. Think bringing some guy makes you tough?” Camelia’s rich- kid crew roared in with their sports cars, speeding straight into the street.
