To divorce her now would only make the Lincolns acknowledge the so–called scandal as truth.
The reason Curtis had climbed so high in the corporate world was because he never rushed to wash himself clean when others threw dirt–he never played defense, never explained himself in panic.
“Curtis, she’s lying to you! If you divorce her now, it won’t be too late to fix this!” Belinda snapped from the doorway, furious.
“Belinda, if your classmates believed rumors and gossip about you–said you were promiscuous or had no self–respect–what would you do?” Curtis turned slowly, his eyes like ice.
Belinda froze. For a second, she couldn’t speak.
Back at the dance academy, she had been bullied. That’s why, when Adriana mentioned Mia hitting her, Belinda felt a flicker of guilt.
But her resentment for Adriana ran too deep.
“Never learn about someone through the mouths of others. And never empathize with–or trust–a man who bad–mouths his ex–girlfriend or ex–wife to everyone he meets.” He pointed at her, a warning in his voice. “And don’t think I’ve forgotten about your little dating incident at school. I just haven’t had time to deal with that yet.”
Belinda’s eyes widened in panic. She turned to flee.
“Come back.” Curtis’s tone dropped–stern, commanding, dangerous. He was truly angry.
“Apologize to Adriana,” he ordered.
Belinda flinched, trembling as she stood at the door. She was really afraid of Curtis’s wrath.
Her
eyes
reddened as she mumbled, “I’m… sorry.”
Adriana just stood there, stunned, her gaze locked on Curtis.
“Have Tom take her back to school,” Curtis said curtly, typing a message to his chauffeur.
Belinda fled in tears.
“Curtis … After what Matthew said to the reporters, your grandfather must have misunderstood. What if he tells you to divorce me?” Adriana asked nervously, glancing at Curtis.

What if Harold forces him to get a divorce?
“Don’t worry. I’ll handle it.” Curtis picked up his phone and called Harold right in front of her. The old man answered almost immediately. “Why are you only calling now?”
His voice was full of anger. Years as a seasoned businessman had given him a presence that crushed anyone who stood before him. Even through the speaker, his deep, commanding voice carried a weight that made Adriana’s palms sweat.
She lowered her head, her mind spinning. If Curtis gave up the collaboration for the family’s reputation, what would she do then?
She thought, If it really comes to that, maybe I’ll drag Matthew down with me.
Her thoughts twisted into a dark place. Maybe she should just die together with Matthew.
Call him out somewhere, and take him down with her.
Ever since her breakdown freshman year, Adriana’s thoughts had always teetered on the edge of extremes.
If it weren’t for the small sense of duty she still carried, she might’ve ended it long ago.
“Belinda came home and caused a scene. I was dealing with her just now, that’s why I missed. your calls,” Curtis explained calmly.
“Did you see what Matthew said at the press conference? The girl he mentioned–is she the one you’re involved with?” Harold’s tone grew heavier.
Adriana’s palms were slick with sweat; she bowed her head lower.
Curtis gave her a brief glance before answering evenly. “Yes, he was talking about Adriana–but what he said isn’t true. Back in her freshman year, she was bullied by his sister. We have solid evidence. His sister was arrested. That’s why he’s desperate and lashing out.”
“Hmph. The Langfords already reached out to me,” Harold said coldly. “They’re furious. If that girl goes to jail, they won’t take it quietly. Are you sure you’ve thought this through?”
He meant–Are you sure you’re ready to make the Langfords your enemy for this girl?
“Grandpa, Adriana, and I are already married,” Curtis said calmly.
There was silence, then a sharp intake of breath. “Curtis, you got married without telling me? Something this big–and you didn’t even inform your grandfather? Do you still have any respect for me?”
