My Accidental Billionaire Husband (Katia and Julian) novel Chapter 416

Fate

Inside Hilary’s bedroom, she excitedly threw open the doors to her massive walk in closet.

“Master, pick anything you like!

Scarlett casually reached for a pink strapless gown layered with tulle, then immediately put it back.

Too girly.

Hilary caught on instantly and pulled out another dress-a pale blue evening gown with a sleek, elegant silhouette.

“This one’s prettier,” she said quickly. “My grandmother gave it to me for my birthday. I haven’t even worn it yet. It’s a limited edition-there are only three in the world.”

Scarlett gave it a brief glance before nodding.

“This works.”

Hilary brightened immediately.

“Master, let me help you change-”

“No need.” Scarlett took the dress from her calmly. “I can handle it myself.”

Hilary reluctantly left the room, clearly disappointed she couldn’t help.

After showering, Scarlett changed into the gown and dried her hair.

She had just picked up a ribbon to tie it back when movement outside the window caught her attention.

Someone was sneaking through the garden below.

Her eyes narrowed instantly.

Earlier, the King had warned her there could be spies hiding inside the palace tonight.

Without hesitation, Scarlett vaulted out the window.

“Stop right there. Who are you?”

The palace servant visibly panicked and immediately turned to run.

“Stop!”

But running in heels slowed Scarlett down enough for him to gain distance.

By the time they reached the front courtyard, the servant suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs-

“This woman’s trying to kill me! Help!”

The palace guards immediately rushed over and surrounded Scarlett.

“What’s going on here?” one guard barked. “How dare you attack a palace servant?”

“He’s a spy,” Scarlett said coldly. “Don’t let him get away.”

But the servant took advantage of the chaos and bolted again.

Damn it.

Scarlett moved to chase him, only for the guards to block her path once more.

“Maye aside,” she said sharply. “I’m the Commander of Obsidian. If he escapes, you’ll be held responsible.”

The guards looked her up and down-and nearly burst out laughing.

“A noblewoman pretending to be the Commander of Obsidian?”

“Seriously? We escorted the real Commander into the banquet hall ourselves earlier. She was wearing military uniform and looked terrifying.”

“And you?” another guard scoffed, eyeing her gown. “You’re dressed for a ballroom.”

“Enough. Step back and stop causing trouble.”

In their minds, the Commander of Obsidian was a legend forged on the battlefield.

The woman standing in front of them looked nothing like that image.

They lowered their spears to stop her.

Scarlett’s patience finally snapped.

With one swift motion, she knocked the weapon aside and forced her way through the blockade.

“Stop her!” someone shouted. “An intruder’s broken into the palace!”

At the entrance of the banquet hall, the noise outside immediately caught Darrel’s attention.

He glanced toward the doors.

“Theron… sounds like something’s happening outside.”

Theron lazily swirled the wine in his glass.

“Not our problem.”

Then Darrel suddenly froze before standing abruptly.

“That’s Scarlett.”

Theron’s hand paused midair.

“…Scarlett?”

Hearing that, Theron’s eyes suddenly lifted.

He immediately looked toward the entrance.

Several guards were already blocking Scarlett.

Seeing this, Theron stood up and strode over in three quick steps.

Scarlett clenched her fist, ready to strike.

Just then-

Theron arrived.

“You’re here at the right time, I was just-” Scarlett started, but before she could finish, Theron Instinctively reached out and pulled her into his arms, wrapping an arra tightly around her waist.

“Don’t be afraid. You’re my woman. They wouldn’t dare touch you.” A

Bearlett blinked:

Honestly, she wasn’t afraid at all.

If she hadn’t been considering that today was Hilary’s coming-of-age ceremony, she would’ve already fought her way in earlier.

The guards froze the moment they heard Theron’s voice. One by one, they quickly stepped aside like they were avoiding a disaster.

They had no idea the woman they were stopping in the courtyard chase was his woman. If they had known, even giving them a hundred heads wouldn’t have been enough to make them dare lay a hand on her.

Theron’s cold gaze swept over them.

The pressure was suffocating.

The guards’ faces turned pale instantly.

“S-sorry, Mr. Cross! We didn’t know she was your woman!”

“If you didn’t know, does that excuse attacking her?” Theron snapped sharply. “She’s a fragile woman-do you think she could withstand your weapons?”

His arm tightened around Scarlett as if shielding something precious, holding her firmly against his chest.

At that moment, the King noticed the commotion near the entrance and glanced over.

“Why is that brat carrying a girl around like that?” he muttered.

From where he stood, he could only see Scarlett from behind.

Evander calmly stroked his beard.

“You’ll figure it out soon enough.”

The King frowned.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Then his expression suddenly changed. “Wait… don’t tell me that girl is Scarlett?”

“It is,” Evander replied casually, deliberately offering nothing more.

The King’s temper flared instantly.

“That idiot!” he snapped. “Ignoring the Commander of Obsidian to chase after some random girl instead? Is he trying to drive me into an early grave?”

He scoffed loudly.

“I would never allow that girl to marry into this family anyway. Only the Empire’s war goddess is worthy of being my granddaughter-in-law.”

Evander chuckled under his breath.

“You’re saying that a little too soon.”

The King shot him an annoyed look.

“What, don’t tell me you’ve already accepted her?”

Evander only smiled.

Just then, Scarlett stepped out of Theron’s arms.

The moment the King saw her face clearly, he froze.

His eyes widened dramatically.

“…Wait.”

He stared at her in complete disbelief.

“She… she’s-”

Evander burst into laughter.

“I told you. You spoke too early.”

The King whipped around.

“She’s Lettie?”

Evander nodded.

The King’s mouth slowly fell open.

“So the girl Theron wants to marry… is Lettie?”

Another nod.

Silence.

For nearly ten full seconds, the King couldn’t process what he’d just heard.

Then suddenly-

“So I spent all this time trying to set them up, while one refused because he already loved someone, and the other refused because she didn’t want an arranged marriage…” He stared blankly ahead. “And the entire time they were talking about each other?!”

Evander finally explained the situation in a few short sentences.

The more the King listened, the more stunned he became.

Then he suddenly burst into roaring laughter.

“Hahahaha! My grandson’s usually so sharp, but he still hasn’t realized the girl he’s obsessed with is the Commander of Obsidian? This is priceless!”

Evander leaned closer and lowered his voice.

“Don’t ruin it for them. Let the younger generation sort it out themselves.”

“I wouldn’t spoil this even if you begged me to,” the King said, still laughing. “This is far too entertaining.”

He glanced at Theron and Scarlett again.

And the more he looked at them together, the more perfect they seemed.

Maybe fate really did exist after all.

Instant Karma

Meanwhile, after stepping away from Theron, Scarlett quietly scanned the ballroom.

The palace attendant who had caused the earlier chaos was already gone.

“How did you even get in here?” Theron asked softly.

But that wasn’t the real question on his mind.

What he really wanted to know was-

How had she entered the palace?

Did she come with the Commander of Obsidian?

For some reason, that thought left a bitter feeling in his chest.

Did that title matter more to her than he did?

“I…” Scarlett hesitated.

She hadn’t even thought of an excuse yet.

At that moment, Hilary hurried into the ballroom carrying a black mask.

The instant she spotted Scarlett, she froze.

That dress-

It was the exact pale blue gown she had given her master earlier.

A limited edition piece with only three in existence.

What were the chances?

Wait.

If her master walked in wearing the same dress…

Wouldn’t everything be exposed immediately?

Too late now.

“Where did Master go?” Hilary muttered anxiously, glancing around the ballroom.
