Chapter 6
This was the first time Asher had ever sent me anything through mind link besides “Okay.”
Just hearing his furious roar, I could already picture the look on his face when he found those
two documents.
Pure rage. Wild and territorial-like someone had trespassed on what was his.
His voice slammed into my mind again and again.
“You killed our child-you killed my heir! I’ll never forgive you for this!”
“An Omega like you, leaving me-leaving Blood Moon… Where the hell else can you go?
Become some discarded Luna?”
“Patricia, where the hell are you?”
“I know you can hear me-why won’t you say a goddamn word? Patricia, are you angry with
me?”
“Nothing’s going on between Joy and me.”
“I can’t track your scent. Please… Just tell me where you’re going.”
“At least let me know you’re safe-okay?”
His voice shifted-fury, then panic, then pleading.
He never got a response. Neither Liz nor I spoke a single word.
Because two years ago, during those seventy-two terrifying hours, I had felt just as helpless.
I kept begging for help until hope slowly turned into despair.
Only to be met with so many times of “Fine.”
Back then, I was terrified.
I was scared of dying. Scared of the pain. Scared I would never see him again.
Now, I wasn’t afraid of anything.
The vehicle had already crossed beyond Blood Moon territory, and Asher’s mind links could

no longer reach me.
From my pocket, I pulled out the mate bond break potion I had prepared two years ago.
Without hesitation, I drank it all.
Before long, a pain tore through my chest-so violent it felt like my soul was being ripped in
two.
I bit down hard on my lip to stop myself from crying out.
Cold sweat soaked my back, my clothes nearly drenched through.
Five minutes passed before the elite warriors in the vehicle realized something was wrong.
The scent of blood had started filling the air.
Ethan was sitting closest to me.
He was one of the elite warriors who had survived that disaster with me before. He placed a
hand on my shoulder.
“Patricia? You okay?”
I looked up, wiped the cold sweat from my forehead, and gave him a genuine smile.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry.”
I rolled down the window and let out a soft breath.
The last traces of pain slowly faded, though my skin still tingled faintly.
I closed my eyes and rested a hand over my flat stomach, silent tears slipping from the
corners of my eyes.
I’d pictured it so many times.
Asher and I, running through the Blood Moon Valley with our pup.
Chasing butterflies beneath drifting moonflower petals.
Waiting together under the full moon for the Moon Goddess’s blessing.
We would’ve raised him into the finest heir.

And I had destroyed all of it with my own hands.
I couldn’t let him be born into a home where his father’s heart was already taken.
I couldn’t let him grow up watching his mother be ignored while his father revolved around
another woman.
I couldn’t let him become like me, raised inside endless waiting and silent cruelty.
Ending the pregnancy was letting my child go.
And letting myself go, too.
