Chapter 8
The opening ceremony for the Wasteland Trial went smoothly.
After that, I began the three-year trial alongside elite warriors from packs across the
territories.
News of my broke mate bond with Alpha Asher spread through the camp the very day I
arrived.
As the former Luna of Blood Moon, I received an unprecedented amount of attention.
None of them understood why I would give up the comfortable life of a Luna to endure
dangerous wilderness training with a group of warriors.
Those who didn’t know me assumed I was nothing more than a decorative figurehead.
I shattered every one of their assumptions with my strength.
Three years later, the trial finally came to an end.
At the closing ceremony, I ranked first in every category and received my commendation from Alpha King Julian himself.
Julian pinned the Moon Emblem onto my chest. It was the highest honor in the trials.
Liz and I were both overwhelmed, and I could feel heat rising to my face.
“Patricia,” Julian said, “you are a resilient warrior.”
“On behalf of the United Council, I formally invite you to join us and oversee military
command across all werewolf territories. Will you accept?”
My blood surged with excitement.
“Absolutely,” I said, my voice barely containing my elation.
That night, a celebration ball was held in the banquet hall beside the camp.
The moment I stepped inside, warriors I’d bonded with over the past three years swarmed me
with congratulations.
We talked together, and I promised them something.

Once I officially joined the United Council, I would tell them what it was really like there.
Just as I raised my champagne glass to my lips, a familiar yet strangely distant voice
shattered the peace. “Patricia!”
I went still.
I turned. And met a pair of bloodshot eyes. It was Asher.
He looked much thinner than before, exhaustion carved deeply into his face.
He practically rushed toward me and pulled me tightly into his arms without hesitation.
“I finally found you!”
The instant my body touched his warmth, I shoved him away.
Every inch of me went rigid, guarded, as I stared him down.
“Alpha Asher, you’re overstepping.”
His arms hung frozen in the air.
My icy tone, my outright rejection-it made his hands tremble.
“Patricia, don’t do this…” His voice sounded hoarse. “I know now. I know everything. The
curse, Joy, the child… I…”
“What exactly do you know?” I cut him off.
My fingers brushed lightly over the Moon Emblem pinned to my chest, grounding myself in
the cool touch of the metal.
It reminded me that I was no longer Luna Patricia, the woman who depended on him.
I was Commander Patricia, soon to oversee the military forces of the entire werewolf
territory.
“I was deceived! It was Joy and that Dark Witch-they planned it all together-”
Asher rushed to explain, reaching for my wrist. I smoothly stepped out of reach.
“Alpha Asher,” I repeated calmly, emphasizing the title, “this is a United Council honor ball.
Please mind your status and your behavior.”

“Whatever was between us ended three years ago.”
“The moment you could no longer track my scent, it was over.”
The surrounding warriors watched us with mixed emotions. Some looked curious. Others
looked sympathetic.
And above all, respect for Alpha King Julian’s authority.
Few would dare harass a former Luna so openly at such an event.
Even Asher seemed to realize the setting was inappropriate.
He sucked in a breath, then lowered his voice, desperation bleeding into every word.
“Just give me one chance. Five minutes alone-that’s all I’m asking.”
“Patricia, I searched for you for three whole years!”
“I removed the Silence Curse. I even… I even punished that dark witch!”
I nearly laughed out loud.
Punished the dark witch? After discovering the truth?
What kind of belated justice was that?
And removing the Silence Curse?
Years ago, he left me waiting alone at the border like I didn’t matter.
When I was trapped and begging for help, the curse he cared about so much never failed him
once.
“There’s no need,” I said, gently swirling the champagne in my glass.
“We have nothing to discuss. I had my fill of your ‘Fine’ and your explanations three years ago.”
“Now, if you’ll excuse me-don’t ruin my celebration.”
I didn’t spare his pale face another glance.
I just turned and walked toward Alpha King Julian, who’d been watching me from nearby, a

faint smile on his lips.
At that moment, Julian reached out his hand to me. He looked calm, confident, and
completely in control.
He was nothing like the broken man standing behind me.
Asher tried to step forward, but Ethan and several other elite warriors from Blood Moon
quietly blocked his path.
Ethan was my second-in-command now.
The look he gave Asher was complicated-but his stance didn’t waver.
“Alpha Asher,” he said firmly, “that’s enough. Patricia needs to rest.’
I could still feel Asher’s gaze burning into my back as though it wanted to tear through me.
But I never turned around.
Inside my mind, Liz let out a pleased growl.
“Well done, Patricia!”
“That’s who we are now-no. That’s who you are. The fiercest werewolf in the wasteland!”
