My Alpha Only Ever Said Fine. novel Chapter 9

Chapter 9

After the ball ended, I didn’t return to my temporary quarters right away.

Instead, I walked alone to the cliffside at the edge of the camp.

The cold night wind swept across the wasteland.

It carried away the smell of alcohol and slowly calmed the emotions Asher’s appearance had

stirred in me.

Moonlight spread across the barren land like silver frost.

There was none of Blood Moon’s luxury here.

None of its hypocrisy. Only raw freedom and strength.

Three years. Every single day a battle-against the brutal wilds, savage beasts, and my own

limits.

It was through those raw, relentless trials that I finally found myself again.

Suddenly, I heard steady footsteps behind me.

I didn’t bother turning around. By then, I already recognized his scent instantly.

“Alpha King, shouldn’t you be resting?” I asked softly.

Alpha King Julian stopped beside me, his gaze also fixed on the distant mountain ranges.

rolling beneath the moonlight.

“I saw an old flame causing trouble and thought you might be upset, so I came to check on

you.”

He paused briefly before continuing in an even tone.

“Asher… doesn’t seem willing to give up.”

I let out a faint laugh. “Whether he lets go is his business. Whether I accept is mine.”

“My answer was set in stone three years ago.”

Julian nodded, admiration visible in his eyes.

“You handled things well. A true leader must first learn to take control of their own life.”

“Breaking free from that twisted bond and choosing what benefited you most was a display of strength in itself.”

His tone shifted. “The United Council needs warriors like you. Clear headed. Decisive.”

“We leave for the Central Council Headquarters tomorrow. Is your team ready?”

“Yes, Alpha King,” I answered, crisp and efficient. “We’re fully prepared.”

“Good.” Julian placed a steady hand on my shoulder.

“Go embrace your new mission. The future of the Blood Moon Pack shouldn’t be decided by

an Alpha lost in false comfort and shallow affection.”

“It should be guided by warriors like you who fought their way back from the wasteland.”

“If that’s something you’d want.”

Something stirred faintly inside me.

I understood the deeper meaning behind his words.

Blood Moon’s leadership hadn’t been united for a long time.

Asher’s favoritism, his years of negligence-they’d bred a growing discontent within the pack.

I used to be the Luna of Blood Moon. Now I had returned as the strongest warrior from the

trials.

Maybe one day, I really could change the pack.

But not because of lingering feelings. Only because of strength. And responsibility.

“I’ll consider it, Alpha King,” I replied with appropriate composure and distance.

After Julian left, I remained standing alone at the cliffside for a long time.

It wasn’t until dawn broke, when the first light pierced the dark, that I finally turned back.

As I passed the temporary holding quarters, I saw Asher resting inside under guard.

He was curled against the cold floor.

His brows remained tightly furrowed, as though even sleep couldn’t grant him peace.

The once proud, commanding Alpha-now utterly spent.

I stopped. Through the iron bars, I watched him. Just for a moment. No hatred left. No love.

Just a calm so complete it was almost emptiness.

“Goodbye, Asher,” I said in the quiet of my heart.

So softly that even the wind couldn’t carry the words away.

Then I straightened my back and walked toward the off road vehicle waiting for me with

steady, confident steps.

The engine roared to life.

I drove away from the camp and toward the heart of the werewolf territories.

Toward the brand new future that belonged to Commander Patricia.

In the rearview mirror, the wasteland camp grew smaller and smaller until it finally disappeared beyond the horizon.

And I knew this time… I would never look back again.

Somewhere beneath the open sky, my wolf let out a long, free howl.

Ahead, everything was possible.

strength I had.

Finn sneered coldly.

“Don’t bother. You’re regretting it now? Too late. Do you know how much Hazel suffered? Why

didn’t you speak up when it mattered?”

“You deserve to die.”

“The witch says memory extraction with a silver needle is just as painful as being

electrocuted. Let’s see how you like it.”

The trial was being held in the largest arena in the werewolf realm.

Twenty thousand spectators filled the seats. The entire process was being broadcast live.

Every werewolf in the realm could watch.

Hazel’s case had once shaken the entire werewolf community.

Even the Alpha King had paid close attention. But with my silence, the case was shelved and

ruled as suicide.

Finn’s Alpha parents were present too. When Finn sealed the mate bond with me, they were

furious and cut ties with him.

But now, seeing all of this done in their daughter’s name, former Alpha Rex and Luna Ruby

couldn’t help but feel bitter and broken.

Luna Ruby pointed at me and screamed, “You bitch! You cursed wretch! All these years, and

you still won’t tell us who that monster was? What happened to your conscience?”

Alpha Rex held onto his mate.

The loss of their daughter and the pain of watching their son bond with someone who

protected the person responsible had aged them rapidly.

Hazel was adopted into the pack by Alpha Rex and Luna Ruby, but they raised her like their

own blood.

Finn and I started dating in high school.

Back then, Hazel was still in middle school, and she used to follow me around calling my

name. Finn always indulged her.
