The day Julia was discharged from the hospital, the weather was unreasonably bright and sunny.
Stephen stood beside her bed, watching as she slowly slipped on her jacket, each movement gentle and cautious.
The doctor said you need proper rest,” he reminded her softly, taking the bag from her hands with the tenderness of
someone coaxing a child.
“Your room at home is ready. For now, don’t think about anything else. Healing is the most important.”
Julia lifted her head at him, her eyes curving like crescent moons. “Stephen, you’re so good to me.”
Stephen smiled faintly but didn’t answer. After the discharge paperwork was finished, he guided her out of the hospital.
A cluster of reporters waited outside, cameras flashing in quick bursts the moment they stepped out.
Stephen instinctively moved in front of Julia, shielding her with his body. His brows drew together. “Careful.”
Julia leaned lightly into him. “It’s fine. You’re here.”
Their car pulled away from the hospital and merged into traffic. Stephen focused on the road while Julia sat in the
passenger seat, watching the scenery sweep by. After a while, she spoke.
“Stephen… how’s Maria? She hasn’t contacted me lately. I’m a little worried about her.”
Stephen’s grip on the steering wheel tightened for half a second.
“She’s fine,” he said evenly. “You worry too much. Focus on getting better. When you’ve recovered, invite her over.”
“All right. I’ll listen to you.” Julia didn’t say anything more, simply watched the world pass outside the window.
When the car entered the neighborhood surrounding the Greyson estate, Stephen noticed the butler standing at the
front entrance through the rearview mirror.
The elderly woman wore a dark suit and had her hair pulled neatly back. But the worry on her face was obvious, even
from a distance.
As soon as the car stopped, she hurried toward them. “Sir.”
She took a step closer, lowering her voice, though her eyes flicked anxiously toward the backseat. “Madam, she…”
Before she could finish, Stephen’s brows had already drawn tight.
He raised a hand, signaling her to be silent. Irritation edged into his tone. “Julia is here. Why are you bringing her up?
Did she throw a fit because she heard Julia was coming?”

The butler opened her mouth again, clearly wanting to explain, but Stephen cut her off. “What is there to fuss about?
