The two women had just stepped out of the car hen someone walked out of the police
station.
It was Rachel
She looked calm and composed, as if she had only gone inside for a cup of coffee. There was even a smile on her face.
Her family had showed up in full force. Five luxury cars were lined up outside the station to pick her up. They were parked in a neat row, grand and eye-catching, like they were welcoming a general home from victory.
Then another car pulled up nearby. A Maybach
Katherine recognized it at once. It was Lucas’s car.
The door opened. Lucas stepped out, dressed in a black shirt. Sarah came with him. She walked forward and congratulated Rachel on her “victory”
Lucas didn’t walk over. He leaned against the car and watched quietly.
Katherine could not see his expression.
But she could imagine it. He was probably happier than anyone.
She clenched her fists. In the end, everything had gone just as she had expected.
The Harts and the Grants had joined hands. Rachel walked away without a single problem.
As if he sensed her gaze, Lucas suddenly turned his head.
They were only about 15 feet apart. Their eyes met without warning.
Under the dim yellow streetlights, Katherine saw his handsome brows draw together slightly. He stared at her without looking away.
Katherine curled her lips in a mocking smile.
Blind eyes. An even blinder heart.
Lucas Rachel had noticed Katherine. She deliberately walked to Lucas’s side and slip her arm through his. She looked up at him with sweet smile. “Thank you and Mrs. C for coming to pick me up”

Her smile was bright and sweet
Her name had been cleared. Her parents and the man she loved were by her side. She looked proud and satisfied.
That bitch-Megan stepped forward in anger out Katherine grabbed her arm.
The Harts had brought many people with them. They were standing right outside the police station. Starting a fight here would do nothing good.
Megan turned back, unwilling and upset. “You were right. None of them are decent.”
Katherine murmured. “Power changes everything.”
Katherine listened carefully as the officer explained the case. After a while, she summed it up into four points.
First, the kidnappers were wanted by the police for child trafficking. Ivy was not the first child they had taken. So it was unlikely anyone had ordered them to do it.
Secondly, the police found no other evidence linking Rachel to the crime. She also had no clear reason to harm the child.
Thirdly, one of the ships owned by the Hart had been docked at the port. After investigation, the police learned that the kidnappers had forced the captain at knifepoint to sail the ship. The two arrested kidnappers had admitted this
Fourth, those two later started making wild claims. They said Rachel had ordered them. Then they accused other people too. The police realized they were just blaming everyone randomly. With the first three points in mind, their earlier statements about Rachel no longer seemed reliable.
In other words, they had changed their story.
In the end, there was no physical evidence, no clear motive, and the suspects had withdrawn their claims. There wasn’t enough proof to show Rachel was involved.
When Katherine walked out of the station, she felt a chill run through her body. It wa something was stuck in her throat. She couldn’t swallow it, and she couldn’t spit it out made her feel sick.
“Tin so mad, Megan said through gritted teeth. Our enemy is right there, and we can’t anything.”
Before leaving, Rachel had even given them a smug smile.
It was infuriating.

Katherine said nothing Shr simply walked away
Megan went home. Katherine went to the hospital.
That night. Katherine sat beside Ivy’s bed and didn’t sleep at all. She watched her daughter’s peaceful face in the dim light.
For a moment, she wondered if she should tell ucas the truth about the children. If he knew everything, maybe he could protect them.
But he loved Rachel so much. Would he really choose the children over her?
If he took the kids home, Rachel would see them as a threat. Would they truly be safe there?
In the end, Katherine had her answer.
No
As long as Rachel was around, the children would never be safe. Danger would follow them every day.
The only way to protect them now was to return to Yarbrough.
The sky slowly turned pale with the first light of dawn.
Katherine freshened up and went out to buy breakfast.
When she came back, there was an unexpected visitor in the hospital room.
